Default '86 944 door handle problem...HELP!

I recently went to open my door, and when I squeezed the trigger to release the door, the metal trigger snapped cleanly off. My question: is their a way to just replace the trigger? Any help is appreciated....

If you could find a replacement trigger and the special pivot pin. The pin has a head and a hollow end so it can be swedged or flared to stay in the handle. Could use a roll pin but you may have to ream and sleeve the trigger so it will rotate on the roll pin.

What an opportunity for a 968 upgrade!
IIRC Triscadek was working on a "easy fix" for getting the replacement handles in without inside panel removal....

I haven't looked at a handle that wasn't attached to a car in a while, but from what I recall the trigger peice didn't seem like it would be easily removed. You'll probably have to replace the whole handle.

I have the "Porsche" etching on them...so I was hoping not to replace the whole handles. I'm speculating that I may be able to buy another whole handle and swap the trigger out. Can anyone back that statement up? Thnx for the welcome chris.

Well you just might be able to use a punch with a small diameter that would fit inside the swedged end of the pin and drive it out. If you can save the pin and reuse it then yes you can use the finger pull out of another handle.

I think in the end it would be easier to replace the handle. It is not a big job, and by the time you replace the trigger you may as well have replaced the entire assembly.

Years ago, on one of my first 944's, I used a door handle assembly from an 87 GTi to get a bunch of the parts off of. From the outside the door handles were identical and many of the internal parts were too. I don't have either of those cars any more but it might be something to look into since older VW parts are so cheap. Somewhere there is a site that lists all the Porsche parts that are interchangeable with VW parts. Those parts are identical but have different part numbers. Maybe someone here can help with locating that site.

Dsalillas, How's things in B'ham? I was there for the first time in September ( my company is based there).

I liked it despite the difficulty I had getting a decent cup of coffee.
