New Keys Made
Hello,
So i can't locate the keys to the 1985 944. Is there a way i can take my VIN to the dealer or does anyone know if there is a bitting set number i can give a locksmith?
I know i can get a new ignition for relatively cheap, but ill need the doors and hatch also.
Thank you
david

One key for everything, unless something was changed.
You can take the VIN to a dealer and have a key made (again, if nothing was changed).
That's what I did, for both the 928 & 944.

Thank you for the replies. I ended up taking the gate lock out over the weekend. it was very easy. Im going to take it to the locksmith and see if they can make a key using the impression method. If that can't,or its going to be a ton of cash, ill try using the VIN at the dealer.
Thank you again.

Search thru the glove box ?
For any number that may be recorded in your Owner's Manual ( if original to the car )? The ignition key also unlocked the gas cap lock as well.
Also, there may be some small rectangular tags with those key numbers on them..... laying loose somewhere in console, ashtray, or glove box.
( I own several 944s I bought used, and the tags were still on the key rings ! )

Update:
I took the rear deck lock out. It only has two screws and easy to get to. Took it to the locksmith down the street and within 30 mins he had a key for me. best part of all, 15 dollars including the key! I did call the dealer and they wanted $300 to cut one using the VIN. of course the locksmith only gave me a silver key, but it works and i can drive it. Ill order a real blank with the emblem on it for 40 bucks and have him cut it for 5 when it comes in.
Thank you for all your advice
