Smile My "NEW" 944

I am 16 and about 3 months ago I got a 1984 944 N/A with only 28k miles! It had 1 owner (A doctor) and I have all records for it! This car is cherry :P.

Anyways it is a 5 speed of course, and like every other 944 owner I want more POWER!

So far I changed my plugs to Boch Plantium+4's, took power steering off, and changed my mufler to a glass pack. Now my car tops out at around 140. I took a SE-R (not spec v) off the line and the rest of the way! So I should be in the mid 7's for 0-60. I want to be in the low 5's even if it is asking alot.

Anyway my next thing is a K@N filter so don't flame me since I don't have one yet and I am wondering what to do after that (scratches head).

Can anyone help me?

(Forgot for you audio freeks I changed the deck to some sony x-pload 4x50 watt with equalizer, stock speakers in front doors 6x9's in rear about to be on a amp, and a sony x-pload 12" 1200 watt sub on a rocksford fosgate 600watt punch amp, the whole car shakes

What to do next is since you are only 16, is don't drive 140mph

Oh and dear god why a glass pack? At least toss on a flowmaster or something that sounds good. Glasspacks belong on a 1976 Ford F150 that is jacked up 2 feet and has a rebel flag on the back window. Just my opinon though

I read glasspack and immediately thought of the "back parking lot" crowd at my High School.

Karl, you pegged it! Funny stuff!!

Hey a fellow young'in...17 here, just recently though, had bday in dec.

trebor, I have been wanting to attend DE events but I thought you had to be 18 to be in the PCA...

What to do next is since you are only 16, is don't drive 140mph
I've gotten 2 tickets so far and was lucky enough to get cut a deal to get it off my record, I've learned my lesson....don't raise your insurance, its not worth it especially at 16.

And research some car audio, i think the forum was like caraudioforum.com or something, Sony car audio blows chunks, one of the worse out there according to 98% of the people.

and welcome to the list

EDIT: And post pics!

sounds like you came across a very nice (concours) 944. You wount be able to make it do all you want uless you throw ALOT of money in to it. What i would do if i had that car would be to sell it to someone that has a big appreciation for 944's and use the money to get a 951. You will be in the low 5's in one of those. I have a K&N and i havve not noticed any gain in HP. And how long did it take you to get your 944 n/a up to 140 and what kind of road was it on?

take off the 4+ platinums and get regular bosch coppers.... you just wasted like 25 bucks in spark plugs that rob the 944 8V engine of power....

Oh and btw... if you are 16 you most likely won't be able to appreciate this car... only 28k is mighty low, and i suggest that you keep it as stock as possible... driving the hell out of anything that is as cherry as yours sounds is just a crime... beating the hell out of 944's should be done with a 150k+ car...

Id say learn to drive it first. Speeding it up takes a lot of money.

After that, doing suspension and such would be your best bet. And getting a proper stereo system

You can either keep it stock, or hop it up in HP, suspension, and body panels. Either way brings lots of smiles.

With 1984-944-28K measurements, the least cost route is definately keeping it stock - cherry original. With my 100K 968, it cost only a few dollars more to bump it up to turbo while I am restoring it back to showroom 0 mileage condition.

Having owned a 944 for ten years and 150K miles, I can write that it has enough power for lots of smiles on the street, and enough performance that you can learn on a track to drive fast and safe.

Gotta have more go? Wait until you have in your dedicated sports car account double the amount of $ you can sell your cherry 944. Then at that time look around for a good 951 or 968. With a low mileage 944 in the garage, I wouldn't spend that money either until you have an equal amount of $ in some nicely appreciating stock.

And since I am handing out advice, why not go the stretch and write that as a life-long pashion, if and when it comes time to trade, stay with Porsches whose engine is in the front and the tranny is at the rear.

(non alcoholic cheers!)

140MPH....I don't think so!!! Dump the plugs and glass pack and forget the filter.
2 years before you are old enough to track it and all the mods are a waste of money.Save the money for your timing belt job that is due in a couple thousand miles...........IMHO!
Keep the car cherry........Dal

I bet that within 6 months the car is bent or the engine is blown up or both.

Sounds like a beautiful car. If you want power, sell it and buy a turbo -- with something that low mileage in such good condition you should be able to find a collector willing to give you the money that it's worth.

Best wishes,
Sach

28k miles on it! SELL IT! BUY A TURBO, and you can hop it up, and destroy it all you desire! PLEASE don't take a low mileage 944 and DESTROY it! You can't get what your looking for out of it anyway. Let it go to someone who'll treat it with respect. Your 16, you wouldn't have a clue what that is.
