Yes I do realize that. I was planning on using fiberglass fenders to start with because it's easier to work..in my opinion. Well I have shown my designs to many people (by the way I'm a art/transportaion design major) EVERY person has said that it looks better. I guess what it boils down to is what everone likes. I am scaning in my 30 minute unfinished sketch to you guys what I roughly have in mind. Keep in mind that this is only a sketch and that my scanner kinda sucks..plus I'm using oil pencils so in person the color has a slight shine to it like paint but on a scanner it look weird....ok how do i attach it to a post?

Cool. I'm not saying the stock 968 headlights are the best they can be. They definately look equally bad as my photochop when they are in the up pos'n.

But stock 986/996 headlights are not the answer.. A round headlight that doesn't pop up would be ideal, IMHO.

I tried to add it at the bottom where it says attach file but it didn't come up. File too big?

Two problems

A: Boxster headlights are much larger than that. Increase them by about 125% and you'd have the right size. And then they would look goofy.

B: What's with raiding the Boxster parts bin? The engine's in the front, you don't need Boxster air intakes behind the doors. You'd be doing permanent body damage and there would be no performance gain. in fact you'd be adding weight. I know I've seen a red 944 cab, (I think John Anderson's) with Boxster ducts, and it just looked like it didn't belong...

The spoiler looks cool, though.

I believe in "form follows function." If you start adding things for looks, that don't actually serve a purpose, whether you know it or not, you're making the car look worse. Only add what you NEED. Any more is overkill.

Hey I dunno Rich doesn't look that bad actually (Randy's blue photoshopped car)...I wouldn't do it, but still.....Hey can you redo that pic with just the round portion? Would it be physically possible to disassemble the components of the boxster/996 unit? Hey can we say Litronics

That "vent" in the rear quarter would conflict with the plastic rocker/effects

You could just cut a hole through the rockerpanel moulding and the body shell. Totally irreversible though... not wise IMHO.

The hardest part of the custom headlights would be getting the glass cover right.. you can't use plastic, because it will turn yellow, and getting the convex or curved glass just the right shape would be pretty expensive.

i know it would conflict with it. that's why you remove them...and add a set of fiberglass boxed or swept ones and then filling the rest. I've seen it done. You just have to have experience doing body work..which i have. The side scoop is only for looks, but like I said before, on a real car it is just plain awesome...to me. I agree that I don't have the proportions quite right but I don't think that they are 125% bigger. I could be wrong.

I agree. Lights off - no difference in look. Lights on - no difference in look from lights off. Just no pop up. Save weight. Improve reliability. Flash headlights easier too. Therefore, an insert with no exterior body work.

I have no problem with the pop up headlights in the looks department.

A few more things:

They are bigger. 125% is only 1/4 larger. If they were the correct size they would basically fill up the red outline around the headlights you drew.

Also, the boxster headlights slope steeper than the 968 fender. Thus, if you layed down the boxster headlights to be flush with the 968 fender, they boxster headlights would suddenly be aimed upwards at a fairly significant angle.

In the Boxster headlights, the turn signal section has a division that makes a flush curved line with the hood and fenders. this would not line up with the 968 either, which has a much straighter hood/bumper division.

Anyways, yeah it's a matter of taste. Do whatever makes you happy - just remember to make it all reversible, so that when you come to your senses you can put it back to stock!

Thanks Brian

Is the slope of the exterior lens as you have drawn it the same as the 993?

yep the angles of the lights are the same as if the car was a 993

but the angle of the 993 light is not the same as the 968 light.
so if this was to be done for real, the modification would require something to be made so that the 993 light actually aims forward, not tilted backwards aimed at the sky.
