Whats this sound?
Its about 20 F and its getting pretty cold here. I took my car out for a drive yesterday, about 50 miles. Ran great, started up great everything was like is should be. Well i parked the car for about 1H and came back and started it up and it had a noise coming from under the hood. I opened the hood and the noise was coming from the timingbelt area. kind in the middle of the engine. It sounds a little bit like a loose muffler, kind of like metal to metal, its not loud or bad just noticable. I drove it for about 30 min and when it was warmed up the sound was still there but it was faint.

I would spend some time and take off the timing cover. If your waterpump is indeed failing and or another component you will end up with some bad damage.
If the waterpump fails (and seizes), your timing belt will break because the waterpump is driven off the timing belt.
Stop driving the car and take off the covers and look. It is much better to be safe than sorry and paying to fully rebuild your head, and possibly replace pistons and rods and and and and and $$$$$$$.

Im going to get it in next week to get the timing belt, water pump, rollers and thermostat fixed. Im going to wait with the painting job for end of feb. I paid 4000 for the car, got a fiberwerks bumper for 500. Got C2 wheels for 575 and the paint job will be 1500 and the timingbelt etc will be 1400. I will have about 8000 total invested. After all that is done what do you guys think i can sell the car for?

"1987 944n/a"
"I paid 4000 for the car"
Probably 4 or 5 grand.

It does not matter how much money you put into the car you will never recover it in the selling price.
Wheels never add much value to a resale price of a car and in many cases will actually detract. Ground effects or body kits also will detract value from the car unless A: they were factory and a rare option B: the person buying the car really likes the look or would have done it anyway.
On a 944, what will add value is having the waterpump, belts and rollers changed by a qualified mechanic and documented.
Look at guys with Turbo cars, they will spend 5-10k on upgrades to make more power, make the car look cool, whatever and will not be able to sell the car for any more money that a bone stock turbo.
Look on Ebay for all of the cars that say 50K + invested, selling for 10k
The only way to make money on a 4K car is to buy it for $800.00
You make your money when you buy something, not when you sell it.

<shrug> that's what an 87 944 is worth about.
What would you have paid for it with a new paintjob, wheels and fiberwerks bumper.
Put the old wheels back on and it won't make much of a difference.
And if your just looking to sell it I wouldn't paint it, you'll never get the money back out of it.

Why didn't I think of ebay Andrew

87 944, clean interior, if it was local and I had the money I'd jump on it for no other reason than it has no dash cracks that I can see.
At $2,500 right now.

2 miles, 500 miles, 30 miles. 5 seconds, 5 minutes.
Something in that area.
You can easily enough pull the cover, check for a major problem, and if neccessary snug up the adjuster to get it to the dealer.
Or do it yourself.
