Mom and I were in her 84 NA cruising home from the Hooters GTG here in Cincy. I saw some 996 lines up ahead, I told mom to catch it, lol. We pull up to a new Silver GT-2! we got a coureteous wave back as she left him, lol. Smiles on both sides, yeah, she was playing and he was cruisin. He did give us a nice downshift as we hit the off ramp, rolled on by at a nice rate as we pulled off. We also saw 2 early 944s, both guards, same as mom's car. NO WAVES!

I encounter that a bit too, until I remind him that he feeds a family of four on one paycheck, and I have a three-income, two-earner household myself. (Yep, I work a second job to pay for my toys. It's no secret in the office.)

There is a white slant nose cabriolet that waves back to me whenever he drives it. My wife gets beeped at everytime she drives our car. (A real ego boost for her.)

Boxster owners NEVER wave back.

No waves for me in my 968, but I did get a guy in a 911 Turbo pull along side to me in a parking lot asking if it was for sale. For a "friend" if you will. Probably a closet 968'er.

While blasting through some twisties near where I live, saw a 356 coming the other way. We both flashed and waved. Quite cool, you don't see too many of those running around.

What totally freaks me out is that I often see a late 356 coupe parked on the street near me. It's a total driver - poor gaps, so-so paint, and sitting outside in all sorts of Chicago weather. I've never seen a 356 that wasn't totally restored until this one, which looks like some guy is just driving it around like an old beater. Keep hoping I'll meet him

I've gotten a wave from a 993 driver who lives in my neighborhood. I once parked next to a Boxster at Lowe's and said "Nice car" to the owner. He said " Your's too. I traded my 944 in on this and I really miss it."

Ive seen two 356's on the road, one was a red cab on the back of a flatbed (looked like a daily, needed paint etc like described above), the other was a black coupe which comes to the local car show in September. Personally 3 forms of acknowledgement are acceptable, Wave, Lights Flash, and Horn honk. I try to use one of the 3 at all times (aroud Pcar owners, or really nice classic cars*), somehow though all the times i see 911 Turbo's im not in the 951 so harrassing.

*or exotics

I remember on our last Vancouver meet, there were prolly 15 944s sitting in one huge group in a Mall parking lot, waiting to leave.

Another 944 pulls in, an Alpine White one, so everyone starts wondering who it is... Its a woman... Who drives past a bunch of us, 3 red 944s and my black sentra (I was jumping 944S2NUTS car haha) and she doesnt even LOOK at us.

As Rich put it, when you see a cluster of 15 cars the exact same as yours... Why not get out and see whats up, or at least WAVE.

I waved at a 996 yesterday. I saw him reach for the turn signal switch so I thought he was going to flash me so I waved. He was only going for the turn signal! I felt so stupid as he gave me a wtf look.

About a month ago I was using some equipment from Murray's out in the parking lot on the 951 when a Toyota truck pulls up next to me. Guy gets out and stands next to me looking at the engine bay: "Man, I just put mine away for the winter -- already miss it." He was great!

The better part is that he's a BMW dealer and prefers his 87 to anything on the lot

Cheers,
Sach

epbrown01: That's a good one! The boss of the company I work for drives a Mercedes and untill I got a company van I drove my Mercedes 450SLC. The boss really loved it. When I parked the 944 next to his car the other day he asked me if I was still a "Mercedes Man"!

Michael
84 944 (fast and fun)
76 450SLC (too slow, too soft, too comfortable)

Check out the "other car" here:

The problem with the 944 is that how do you give a quick "flash" with your headlights down? This is the first car that I've owned that I can't give a quick pull on directional stalk to flash my high beams.
