Default Help in So. Cal?

Allright, I have a bad thermostat in the 951 that needs to be changed, hopefully soon since i only have three weeks from yesterday total to drive it until I go back to college. I am learning to work on the car, and I think for this one, I could REALLY use help. Can anyone in the Southern California area willing to help me? or does anyone want to get a wrenching meet together sometime in the next couple days? Is anyone free Monday or teusday? Thanks!

Fun run was really good. I did the first canyon in the 951, and it was wet. SOO much fun, then when we all stoped, the car got pretty hot, and everyone crowded around and diagnosed it as the Thermostat. So I drove home, and took my brother's 2.5 RS (he was with me) and re-met everyone at the top of stunt, where I got the most amazing ride in a GT-2, crazy car! Then I did the rest of the run in the 2000 2.5 RS, which really proved itself against the porsches. We ate, and talked, and had a great time, I hope we do it again soon, why weren't you there?

Glad you all had a good time.
Couple of reasons why I didn't attend:
1) Car isn't painted yet, and it's random 3 inch areas of paint missing were going to mess up the pictures.
2) I woke up at like 11:00am

Good luck with the thermostat, there are lots of knowledgable guys down here that should be willing to help you out.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...at_replace.htm

Napa Auto Parts.
"New Thermostat (NAPA carries a 160, 180 and 190 degree version) It doesn’t have to be a Porsche thermostat, just one that is 54 MM in diameter. "

btw- can you guys post pics of the fun run?
Thanks.

Eyal, I've already started digging toward my belts/water pump and everything else in there just to get a peek at what it looks like. Hm, I'll probably end up putting everything back in soon, but I wanted to see how much I'd have to take out to get to the belts. I'm somewhat reluctant to drive to Calabasas since I live about 30 miles east of LA, but maybe we can share pics and get some feedback from other people.

That's in Van Nuys, if you're looking for a thermostat, save yourself the drive, and go to NAPA.

The thermostat snap ring is a serious PITA to get out without the right tools. Perhaps SoCal, or Legoland have the right tools?

I can help, but on a weekend... when are you leaving for the frosty Dakotas? I'll be in San Francisco for Christmas weekend. I do have the printed factory manuals that I can led out if I can't help. At the very least it will give you some procedures to compare with.

Should have went on the run, but it was raining... my street tires are pretty much slicks, so it probably wouldn't have been as fun.

I heard that the T-stat is easier to change out as an assembly with the water pump, course that will entail removing the crank pulley unless you cut the back timing belt cover.
