Default Out of service transaxle questions

I have a trans that has been in a non running car that has been sitting for about 10 years. I need a trans now and don't know if sitting that long is bad for it or if there is anything I should do Pryer to installing it. Any advice would be great.

send a PM to RL user "Dimi944", he's a transaxle expert in MD...
probably change front shaft seal, axle seals, and the gear oil and go.

Sitting for 10 years, there is certainly a chance that water inside the transmission (vapor condensation or leaking) could cause corrosion. Seals are probably pretty dried out. No way of being certain on any account unless you open it up and inspect it, which is quick to do. I'd separate the gear carrier from the diff carrier, look at the pinion, front pinion bearing, 3rd/4th gear synchros and synchro hub -- they will all give you a strong indication of overall condition. Good luck!
