Default Someone did it!

Hey,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6434

That guy swapped a 85.5 interior into a 83! Looks pretty decent overall, just carpet doestn seem to fit right? Would that raise the value of the car or lower it?

From the ebay ad:
Late Model Conversion!
He should have added: "Complete with dash cracks for that lived-in look!"

If you're gonna do a conversion like that, you might as well spend the $$ and get a new dash, or at least one that doesn't have the cracks!

Something isn't right with that listing, smells a little fishey.
"Turbo conversion" doesn't mention what was converted, engine or front end? The front end was damaged and replaced, so maybe it had a turbo nose at one time and was converted back. There are no under hood pics and the listing doesn't call it a 944 turbo anyplace nor have any HP reference. I can't help thinking something's up...

It had a turbo nose and rear valence. I originally bought the car from the auction and the guy bought it from me. The forklift driver ripped the whole front bumper off the car when I went to pick it up so I was out of luck. I was so disgusted I sold the car.

I like the part about the AC controls being in the glove box!

What about the fresh air levers and blower?

What about the speedometer?

No one says you can't swap the dashes. It's that there can be a few complications.

Speedometer has a electronic converter that takes rpms from the speedo cable and converts to electronic signal. Its quite trick but I am not sure whether it works or not right now. That AC control does look funny. When you open the glove box, you see a bunch of wires and an AC switch.

lol, if your gonna do it, do it right! Can you swap the gauge clusters as well? Why cant you just change the AC to the late model style?

An old tread has life!

Some of the AC can be rewired -- IF you have the manuals. Most can not as the air box flaps are cable driven in the older models while they are vacuum diaphram driven in the newer models. There is also a major difference in the AC relays and logic.

This is one of the BIG reasons it's not practical to put a newer dash in an older car; the newer air box and blowers do not fit the older cars.
