Default Rennsport Reunion VI

Any other wasserpumpenbesitzer going? Sure, it's a good amount of time away, but you need to have hotel rooms booked already, or very soon.

The plan is to depart Gainesville, FL on 9/24/2018 at 5:00am with my 951, a 356 and a 914. First stop is in Denton, TX.. Tues drive from TX to Flagstaff. Wed from AZ to Paso Robles, with a 2 hour Grand Canyon detour. Final jaunt to the track on Thurs. Anyone, any group, doing something similar and would like to link up? Would be good to get some more vierzylinder-autos headed to Monterey.

I'll be driving there from Phoenix in my 951 or 914 and could possible meet you in Flagstaff. I might be on the east coast before RR to attend Okteenerfest if it occurs the weekend before RR and could hook up with your group then. I have a campsite reserved on turn 6 for RRVI.

What I have currently (obviously much of this could change over 9 months) is us departing Flagstaff at 7:00am on Wed (9/26) and driving directly to Grand Canyon Village. May also do a quick stop at Hoover Dam (is it worth it if you've never seen in person?) then drive to Paso Robles for the night. Thursday is an easy drive after washing the cars post breakfast. Should be at the track close to noon.

Anyone else want to become a member of the 4 Cylinder Syndicate?

I will be most likely visiting it this year. Will be flying to LA and then meet my customer and friend and will be preparing cars in El Centro and from there taking a roadtrip to Monterey.

Regarding Hoover Dam, yes, it is worth seeing. I visited it in May, certainly a sight worth seeing.

Paso Robles is ~6 hours from El Centro. When are you planning to make the drive to Laguna Seca?

I would think we will take few days for the road trip and enjoy, not rushing it with one long drive.

Most likely around 18 Sept. or so but not sure yet.

We will take ~4-5 days for the trip and maybe staying in Santa Barbara and/or Pismo Beach for a day to enjoy.

And of course when to have a day for unexpected (you never know what might happen when you take on a road trip in old sports cars, one of the cars is old 911 lol )

But as I said the dates are not carved into stone (well, except RR ones that is).

Just an FYI Highway 1 is still not open for through traffic due to a very large mud slide. It is expected to reopen in time for Rennsport but you should check to confirm.

Yes, I am aware of that. I was driving from SF to LA in May this year and just few days before my trip a big landslide occurred in Big sur that wiped out half a mile of road into sea. Had to take a round trip.

FWIW

Spend at least a day at both Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam.

Anything less is cheating yourself and you will regret it later ..... BOTH are phenomenal experiences. Bring a digital camera and keep your finger on the shutter release, just firing away. The history that unfolds out of each is something you have to see to believe.

Yes, am hoping to be there as well, but due to tight scheduling between PCA events locally and a few Vintage Races close to home, may well be flying out ( regrettably ) and renting a car to make the event.

See you there ! Safe Travels to all my Porsche friends ~~~~
