Is this for a RHD car then? I've never seen one, ever.

Ya, I was about to say "that's not a 944 part unless it's for a RHD car" haha

Now I'm curious what a RHD steering rack looks like. Actually I'm curious how the brake, clutch and handbrake work as well. I'm guessing the tub sheetmetal is very different in some places.

the rhd crossmember has a big hole in it, the rack is the same as lhd i believe but flipped over and the pinion shaft/intermediate shaft pass thru the xmember hole,
see here:

http://944foot2thefloor.blogspot.com...g-rack-on.html

clutch M/C and pedal are on the RH side of the car (clutch MC/reservoir about where the cruise control servo goes).
brake M/C is in the same place as LHD but there is a long bar under the dash that transmits the brake pedal movement from the RHS to the booster. think like the headlight motor as a mechanism example.
handbrake, i guess its on the RH doorsill (mirror to LHD), but weirdly iirc the boot/bonnet release are still on the LHS.

Thanks for the link. I'm as amazed as I am amused

I've seen lots of other German RHD cars with the hood release still on the left. Sort of like a passive-aggressive gesture for having to laboriously relocate every other control to the RHS. Or simple indifference/laziness.

maybe the Brits bombed out all the right-hand hood release factories and the Germans never recovered.

I think you could be right,
Question, what side is the boot(trunk) release on LHD cars?

"the best thing the English ever did was put the driver right next to the curb... but then they moved the curb to the other side of the road!"

Kinda like the e-brake
They moved the e-brake to the right where it should be, but then they moved the seat to the right too!
