968 needs fuel pressure regulator (Bosch 0280160287). O'reilly, AutoZone, etc only sell generics, not Bosch. FCP Euro claims to have it in stock, so ordered it on Sat for $135. This morning get an email, they don't have it, cancelling my order. Summit Racing claims that they can have it in a couple of days, so order it from them for $120, then do an online chat to see how confident they are of their "first week in December" delivery estimate. "Oh, we expect the part in the first week of January, then we'll get it to you." Crap. Cancelled. PartsContainer on eBay has it for a spendy $159, but claims (4) in stock so I order from them. Two hours later, I get an email cancelling the transaction saying "part not available".... O'Reilly claims they can get a generic made by BWD in a couple of days for $81, anyone heard of them? Or know a source for the real Bosch? Pellican out of stock too, AutoHausAZ doesn't carry it, etc.

far as i can tell, the 968 uses the same FPR as a 944S except the 968 has a threaded connection vs 944S hose barb.
so if you can convert your return hose to "clamp on" instead of thread-on you should be OK.

That's a really good observation. Yes, it looks like 968 and S2 use the same part with threaded return line rather than the barb on the "S" part. Cheaper too, $95 from AutoHausAZ for real Bosch and in-stock. I ended up buying the generic with the correct threaded fitting from O'Reilly for $81, should be here on Weds, will see what happens. If it doesn't work-out I'll convert to the cheaper and more common barb fitting. Thanks for the help.

Got the reg from O'Reilly today, BWD #21852. Looks like the Bosch part, finish is silver instead of cad-plate. Bolts up fine, didn't need to move the fuel rail. The top bolt is easy to get to, the bottom is partially blocked by a bracket, ended up using a short socket with a hex bit adapter and a 1/4" box wrench to turn it. Long socket doesn't fit, short socket with extension is too long, hex adapter was just right. To reinstall, I taped the bottom bolt into the socket with painter's tape which kept it from falling out until it found its correct alignment. I use the same trick when reinstalling spark plugs.
Car runs awesome again.
Now to see if aftermarket lasts as long as oem (24yrs).
