Rebuild or Replace Leaking Clutch Slave?
Leaking clutch slave cylinder at inspection hole
Rebuild or Replace Leaking Clutch Slave? See the attached pic. I may also have a slow leak at the master cylinder where I can see a little leakage behind the pedal. This is a 1985.5 944 race car. I don't think either of the cylinders have been replaced before, and I'm tempted to just replace both with new cylinders to not have to worry about it. It's getting cold here in Minnesota now. Is there any issue with doing this job in sub-zero temperatures, besides it will suck? Like if open up the system and have to order more parts or leave the lines open for a week, could that introduce moisture? I might just wait for Spring.

i just installed one a couple weeks ago. Pelican Parts:Clutch Slave Cylinder
Brand: FTE Note: (1987 Porsche 944 S Coupe)
Part #: 944-116-237-00-M33$67.25
$67.25
recommend you search clutch slave here for info on bleeding: the suggestion to use a screwdriver to actuate the clutch lever several times to push the air back up to the master was invaluable. I still had a lack of clutch and bubbles despite using a power bleeder until i did that.

Either choice is good. Really depends on the condition of the inner bore of the current slave cyl. When possible, I am one to rebuild -- that way I know what is inside the unit as opposed to a rebuild shop somewhere in the world doing the work. New is a different story, of course, but is rather expensive for someone on a budget, as I am.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Also a good time to replace the blue clutch hose.

Master, slave, blue hose and the hose between the master & slave. They all normally need replacing at the same time or you’ll be replacing them shortly one after the other.
