1987 N/A fuel supply hose sizes ??
1987 N/A base model. I need to replace the supply and return fuel hoses to/from the Damper and Regulator. Both are the crimped on type at the hard lines near the exhaust manifold. The other ends are one crimped on type and one hose clamp type securement. We've cut back & removed the crimped on cover on these types of hoses on my 928 & replaced with standard fuel hoses and German hose clamps with great success. We know how to do the job.
My questions are: Has anyone done this procedure on the N/A 944 ?? And do you recall the hose length, inside diameter & outside diameter ??
If anyone knows the inside diameter of the black rubber protective hose that fits over these fuel hoses that information would also be very much appreciated.
I'd like to replicate them as close as possible and provide protection from the exhaust manifold heat as well. None of the hydraulic hose manufacturers in the Columbus, OH, area will rebuild a fuel hose for us... they quote "too much liability"... Bah Hum Bug!!!
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Thanks! That is exactly what I need. Nice to know that 3/8ths and 5/16ths rubber fuel hose will do the trick! The covering & insulation recommendations are spot on as well !!
Thanks a million. I had no idea this site even existed!

The original fuel hoses (dated 1986) were compromised internally near the hard line connections - probably from being old and manipulated during exhaust work, cam tower gasket replacement, etc... They were DUE for replacement.
We used the 3/8th and 5/16th Gates EFI hoses with a bit of "personal lube" to ease them on (the interior diameters are actually a little smaller than the hard lines). Prior to connecting to the FPR and Damper, we slid on a heater hose (over the 3/8th) and a slightly larger heater hose (over the 5/16th) over top as heat protection / anti-chaffing hose covers (similar to the stock design). Worked like a charm and almost looks stock, except for the SS hose clamps... We put those on more for piece of mind than anything - those fuel hoses aren't coming off without being cut off !
This wraps up the last project, of a long list of projects, we had to complete on this 944! She's DONE!! Now my son can drive her to/from High School without Dad worrying about a mechanical failure... or a Car-B-Q in the driveway
Thanks again!
