You can do this really easy with a $5 relay from radio shack (or a free one from the junkers)
Simply hook up a constant power source to terminal 30
Connect an accesory power wire (switched by ignition) to 86 (or 85)
Connect 85 (or 86, whichever not used above) to chassis ground.
Connect your led power to terminal 87 (not 87A), and your led ground to chassis.
For a relay diagram, go to .HERE
Make sure that you are using a resistor with the led, most cant handle the power without it (not sure if its voltage or amperage, but the resistor lowers one so the led doesnt burn up. Ask the radio shack salesperson for help choosing the right resistor/LED combo)
Alternatively, I think there are cheap kits that do this as well

I installed a fancy blinking bright blue led for my alarm, I just replaced the stock one. If you have some free plugs in your shifter console, I think this is the best place. Just pop one out, drill a hole, and stick in the led.
