Default short-throw shifter

hey, i wanted to buy the short-throw shifter from 944racing. com, but i had a question about it...when you install it does it use the stock gear shift lever? i mean with a short-throw shifter does it change the assembly all the way up 2 the shiftknob? or is attached to the stock shift lever? if i do have to change the **** though what kind of **** would i need...because ive looked at the stock **** and where it's attached and its a really thick square shape. thanks

The short shift kit merely replaces the OE linkage at the transaxle. It does not include or require changes to the shift lever. You will find that the factory shift lever is superior to aftermarket levers, particularly in terms of noise, vibration and harshness...

Actually I have something to add on that. I've seen those same short shifters that attach to the tranny, but then there are the ones like the Kolkeln short shifter for example, that attaches to the actual lever (and is manually adjustable for throw length). Is there an advantage or difference between them in terms of performance? Thanks alot.

In a similar vein, I've altered a stock lever (shortened it by 2+ inches) and used an aftermarket ****. The result is a shorter throw length but, again, the downside is the aftermarket **** which is just too noisy for me. Perhaps the Kolkeln doesn't suffer this drawback but I'd have to be sure before I chose that relatively expensive option. IMO the Autothority shortshifter or, for less money, the 944racing shortshift kit works fine. Naturally, the shift effort is somewhat increased and the gate seems a little "notchier" at first.

The Kokeln design rattles like a diamondback. I have one of a similar design made by a company called RPM d'Avant Gard, long since out of business (like 4 years ago) and it really gets to buzzing when your driving. It isn't the **** that makes it rattle, but how the shift rod attaches to the lever.
