Bent rim and tire damage
Well a pothole got the better of my front tire this evening. Enough to bend the outer edge of the rim .250 in. Got a little vibration since the rim is now out of round. Tire is holding air fine and did not go flat. My question, since the pothole was hit with enough force to deform the rim some, should the tire be replaced, could it have suffered some sidewal damage that is not visible? Opinions?
Thanks,
Thanks,

I say, yes. replace the tire.
One time last year, I was doin some stupid ****, and ran the car over the curb at a high rate of speed. this in turn bent both front A-arms, and all 4 wheels. I was told, that despite the fact that only 1 tire had visible damage, I should throw all 4 away because it bent the wheel. I was pissed. I'd had these tires and wheels for a week. I had just refinished the wheels. they were 928 Phone Dials, and we had to fit them with spacers. so, put the old wheels and tires back on. threw away more than $600.00 worth of wheels and tires.
(just to give you an example of how hard I hit, the driver's rear wheel was missing about an inch of the rim. and somehow, the tires stayed full of air. didn't go flat.)

Man, is that bad information. If the tire is damaged you will develop a bubble on the sidewall (generally but not always), a good tire shop should be able to look at it for you. A hard answer would be YES, there could be damage that you cannot see. If money is not an issue I would probably replace it.
You did not necessarily need to replace all 4 someone was just trying to sell you tires.

For me at least, I know I'd be thinking horrible, scary thoughts every time I am running at high speeds if I didn't replace that wheel and tire. I'd definately talk to some tire/wheel experts, and err on the side of safety, if need be. At least for my piece of mind. (If I had one).
