Default WTB: 1988 944 NA Cam

Hey guys,

Looking for a NA cam from an '88 944 that is in very good shape. Part number is 944.105.155.09. Would take the matching lifters as well.

Please let me know what you have.

Thanks

Mike

Why this one specifically....?

You noticed that it has 1-2 more degrees of duration...?

I can tell you that the increase in performance is so minimal on a dyno that the result is inside the differential of variance in 3 dyno runs on the same day, with the same conditions, i.e., not worth the trouble.

I probably have one if you insist, with the lifters.

Make me an offer and I'll see if I can put my hands on it.

for posterity's sake, the "late NA" cam used 85.5-88 and maybe 89 has 1mm additional exhaust lift and 8 degrees more exhaust duration than the "early NA" cam from 82-85.0.

intakes are the same, don't know about any tuning differences but the late NAs were rated at 147hp in the US vs 143 for the early US cars.

so +4 hp, at best..

The '88 also has a bump of .7:1 compression to go along with the cam.

Cam is probably good for 1 - 1.4 hp or 1% increase in power.

Not worth the cam tower gasket job and oil change....

But I have one if he wants it....,

09r cam gets you 4hp, +0.7CR gets you 5 more...
eventually we're talking real numbers

LOL, I walked away to do something else and thought I might have been thinking about the 89 2.7 cam.

Either way, according to your number (cause I can't be bothered to go look for myself.. )

Early rated output was 143...correct..?

Up to and including 1988 is 147...correct...?

That's 4 total horsepower and the 88 had a bump to 10.2.

Or am I misunderstanding your message and '88 was higher than any other...?

You know what.....on second thought, 4-5 hp is within the variable you will see on two brand new 944s on a dyno.....

LOLZ X 143 or 147....!

Power is overrated, it's all in the handling....!

I have the cam bearing number 15509.

Came from an '88 NA automatic.

Lobes look normal, bearing journals excellent, sprocket key drive slot intact.

I remember now robbing two of the lifters just as a safety precaution when we broke a couple of valve springs on a another engine.

So I don't have those (only 6).

I do have the cam housing it ran in.

$100 for cam, $150 with housing.
