Default Thoughts on 1994 968 Black/Red

Hey guys, i'm a 911 guy, lately been really loving the 928 & 968, i have never driven either car..928 is out of my budget (i only desire the later model GTS or S) ..however i found a 1994 968 Manual of course that seems look clean and has service records black on red interior in great shape 101k miles, timing belt, alternator, tensioners says all have been done in last 20/30k miles.

Only hiccup is carfax says True Mileage unknown however i believe this is a mistake as miles are all trackable through records and even on carfax itself (owner says cluster went out once so when went to register couldn't put in miles and since car was older than 10 years old they just left blank) otherwise history is good, aside from having 6 owners before.

-Are these cars fun to drive? i'm buying this car from antother state and wont' get to drive it first.

-how reliable are these cars if they have been well maintained and what should i watch out for?

-What kind of value would you put on this car? owner asking $13,000/$14000 i'm buying this car for myself , but will eventually end up selling it, don't care to make a profit but would like to at least feel that i'm good and would break even after driving for few months.

Of course i know i should get a ppi & know i should use the search function.

I'd post over on the 968 forum, under model specific. But all in all a 94 968 would be the best of the best of the 924/944/968 series. I can't speak to a 968 exactly, but my 951 and 944 NA both are a blast to drive in the twisties. There is nothing about the 968 that would do anything but improve that experience.

They are as reliable as any car that age, maybe a bit better than some if well maintained. 968 Guru's can give you a run down on what to watch out for.

Value is in the neighborhood for a good 968 with documentation from what I've seen. I maybe wrong, but I think the belts are good for a longer interval then the 944. Knowing when the clutch was last done can be a big factor that can move the price up or down a couple grand.

Default Great car

I own a car built in April of 1994. There may be some major maintenance items needed after the mileage increases from here. Such as oil pickup tube, cam chain adjuster or just the rails, clutch, motor mounts, wheel bearings, rear shocks, etc. In 4 years time, I have had all of these corrected. I recommend a pre-purchase inspection. I still love the car. I have never had so many chats with strangers until owning this car.

as long as the belts and water pump are changed at specified intervals they are very solid, reliable cars.

968 had all the kinks worked out, you could say the 944 was the long term development mule the whole time

great fun to drive.
