Really want to get this Rent-going-down-a-hole thing to go away.

It's about $225 more than my rent right now, + more utilities.

But I get a full home office deduction, on top of deducting Interest.

Maybe in a year or so I can get that 928.

Decent place, finally get to have a grill (already picked out), and this place I'm in now is wicked noisy. SO I got that going for me.

Says nothing in the Condo rules (Hudson NH is a bit of a white trash area) about working on cars. As long as I don't pull the motor and stuff.

For biggish stuff I can go to my friends house. Decent sized garage.

Don't worry that much about the extra couple hundred bucks, you'll get used to it soon with a few adjustments in spending (even mac and cheese tastes better when it's made in your own kitchen ) or you'll grow into it with a raise at work. Where ever I travel, I like to check out the housing market, I get a kick out of how much costs can fluctuate. I'm more than a little jelous of your tax rate!

be careful about the home office deduction. you have to have a separate entrance. my buddy took it to tax court because he lived in NYC in a loft. he rose the wrong arguments in my opinion, still it is pretty hard to have two entrances to a fourth floor loft. he lost! if you find the cite to Normoil v commissioner about 2001 you will see how restrictive the home office rules are.

With the interest dedution you will be ahead of renting.

Yeah I know how they are, I do have a second entrance, and I'll fight it as well since I work 100% from home.

Just looked at the tules Wooo hooo. If I store samples (I do) Exclusive use is waived.

Damn thats a low cost of living! Around here a 1200 SF 2 bed end unit would probably run >$300,000 and $4000 in property tax

Sid, congrats on becoming a homeowner. And not to be nosy,,,,,,,ok, to be nosy, but if you don't care to share just disregard the question, what rate did you get on your mortgage? Our new house will be finished in April, and I'm watching the rates nervously. I check the posted rates in the newspaper, and check online WAY too often, but I know what's advertised and what can actually be gotten can vary. I don't wanna' wish bad on anyone, but this is no time for the economy to pick up. Give me 'til Feruary pleeaase.

Thats why we have a number of USA people building mansions up north and are using them as summer/winter getaways.

One guy I know of, spent $500,000 on a home, comes up maybe three or four times a year, just to get away from the "city life"
