here is a clip out of an e-mail i recieved from scott in refrence to the red car wormhole posted photos of.
"Thanks for your interest in our work. Actually, that car belongs to a
customer of ours, but he decided to adorn his car with our company name (a
mutually beneficial arrangement)
The 968 rear is a stock factory bumper cover, The stock part has the
flexibility to conform in ways that fiberglass does not. The stock metal 951
rear quarters were cut and modified to accept the 968 bumper cover. This is
not a job for the average to above average body shop, but rather a job for a
"real good" fabricator, then use a decent body shop for the "finish" work.
We currently have another couple of cars that we are currently converting
and I would welcome the opportunity to do your project as well - Otherwise,
I can supply you with any information you need, and heck, I can even supply
you with the rear bumper cover and lights.
We do not have any progress photos of "that" car, as that car was already
converted when we added Bret as a customer, but we have converted several
others in the past, and are currently working on a couple more. It takes
quite a while to get the bumper cover cut in, then we have to make the
mounting flaps, then box in all the rear panel that we cut out to make the
968 rear fit the 951 - Again, not the type of project for the faint of
heart."

My project took about a little over a month and a half from start to finish. Again like he said, you need a very competant body shop as there is much custom metal work. They basically make a 968 rear out of your 944. I used all factory parts. Total cost to me for everything was $2,100 painted and all. That does not include the cost of the factory 968 rear end and lights which I picked up used from Parts Heaven.
I've seen many people say that the 968 rear quarters are vastly different. I don't know about this. When I was having the car done they were using a 968 as a guide for the inner metal work and the rear quarters looked pretty much the same dimensions. But what is cool is that they used the factory car as a template to do the metal work.
