Talking OT: new car in the family

Just got something to drive around while the 951 is sleeping...

Europeans probably know what this is, but I bet you Americans have never seen one

Is it a Peugeot? Kinds looks like their logo on the center cap. Then again the body kinda looks like a Seat.

Yep

Peugeot 106 GTi. Can't get any pics right now as it's already dark outside, but it is a funny looking little car... with trick suspension and 1.6l 120hp engine (ok, not *that* fast, but quick enough to be amusing )

I loved those little hot hatches when I lived in England.

Have you guys seen a French comedy called "Taxi"? It was made by Luc Beeson (director of La Femme Nikita, The Professional, Fifth Element, etc). It was one of the most successful French films of the 90s, and it spawned 2 other sequels.

This very funny story centers around a taxi driver who fantasizes he is a race car driver. A souped up Peugot was his car of choice. He does battle against a German heist gang driving souped up Mercedeses. Excellent driving action scenes.

AH, the Peugeot 106. Pretty decent little cars. I lived in Paris last year, therefore i learned alot about European Cars. Over here we have mid-size, then economy. Over there there is economy, then economy-economy, then...the cars are quite tiny in general. The difference in size between the Peugeot 106, 206, and 306 in our terms is quite minimal.
Love the 206...Rally Winner!!!

Have you guys seen a French comedy called "Taxi"?
HAVE I??? Hehe...I saw Taxi 3 when it came out in the spring in France...it's pretty funny...there is a very special american guest who speaks french at the beginning of the film...anyone know who it is??
Hint: "beep:GRENADE!....beep:ROCKET LAUNCHER!....beep:FIREBALL!!!"

Check out this pic I took at the Paris Tuning show I went to earlier this year....when I set up a gallery I'll include all the pics...I'll let you all know!
(Sorry for the quality, all, my digicam is still messed...)

This is for whoever lives in the states, if you really really want a Euro car like that, just drive south to Mexico. They have all those cars. SEAT, Alpha Romeo, Peugot, Rover (MG), etc etc. I've been living in Mexico (Guadalajara) off on and for the past couple of years and thats one of the good things I look forward to when I come down. I was even thinking of bringing up a SEAT Leon Cupra R up to the states with me a while ago. They also have those sub-compacts here too. Like the Chevy POP, Ford Ka, and that tiny Mercedes one I forget the model number. Also those other models not sold in the states for some reason, ie Ford Mondeo, Chevy/Opel Astra, Audi A3, Nissan Alemera, etc etc.

Even with this selection, I still prefer to drive by the Porsche dealership and drool at the perfection in the showroom. Maybe I should take a pic of a diff car every week at a different dealership and post it. But I guess I would need to become a member first huh. The fact that I'm up to my ears in student loans and had to sell my 944 has prevented me from joining . Maybe Santa will be generous this year.

Stallone?
Bingo!
I thought it was pretty funny, you see a masked man making a cool getaway, and then he pulls of his mask and it's sylvester stallone and he speaks french (it's dubbed i think though).
Ah agent! They are all coming back to me now!!! I remember all those cars...if I had a ton of money I would definitely own a euro car...one car i would LOVE is the audi A3 ...that thing would do SO well here...or the S3...droool....
The Mercedes is the A-class, those things are pretty cool too, I think they have the A130, A160, and even A230! That thing rules, AMG kit...

Nice! I really like the small GTi-Peugeots.
I've never driven a 106 but I've owned a 205 GTi and a 306 GTi tuned to about 185 hp.

I really miss the 306 sometimes

I don't want to hijack your thread, but here's my winter ride! A real classic

Just be careful with the gearbox.. I've driven/tortured a Renault Meganč a lot at work and it's almost impossible to find 1st gear.
