Default hit BUMP, engine died, car is stranded

I hit a curb while taking a turn (yes i know, very embarassing). The engine shut off, I popped a tire, and now it wont start. The police are going to tow it if it is not fixed by tomorrow moring.

The engine turns over, but the tach does not bounce. Could this just be wire on my map kit being dislodged by the bump? Or could it be a speed/reference sensor was moved a little bit or broken? I think the turning over without the tach moving is the key, but im not sure what to look for.

Thanks for any input.

I doubt it would be the DME, but stomp on the passenger side floor board to give it a jolt, you never know.

Check the connections on the back of the engine for the speed/ref sensors. If the ref sensor connection is bad, the Tach will not move when cranked and the car will not start. Might also want to check all the connections at the DME if you hit on the right side.

I forget what they are called, but in some cars, not sure if its in the 944. But there is a impact switch located in the car. If your car gets into an accident then this switch is activated. It cuts off the fuel supply to the engine. This could be your problem. All you have to do is find the switch and reset it. If the 944 has one.

Lightbulb AAA

Surely someone you know has AAA, and tow it somewhere safe!? Don't risk it with these cars!

Tow it yourself, if you have to. YOu don't want the cops doing it!

You can join AAA and have it towedonce you sign up. Not many know this, hope it's something simple like a fuel shutoff switch. I remember my old escort had one in order to prevent fires.

Does anyone know if these impact switches exist in 944 turbos? If they dont could the problem be a DME relay being broken by the impact? Would this cause no tach signal? What else would cause no tach? I got the car towed home, now i just have to fix it...

No impact switch that I know of in any 944. It could be a flakey DME just got finished off, but I'm thinking poor connections jarred loose on the speed/reference sensors.

Does the tach ever bounce when cranking? I never noticed.

You know what, i hada friend who's 911 would cut off with every pothple or big bump! He had bad grounds or something. He replaced his ground wires and it fixed it i think.

the tach won't really move until the car actually cranks - at least mine doesn't.

my tach does bounce a little when cranking- I always understood that was normal. no tach bounce = bad sensors.. check to see if you snagged a sensor wire during your offroad foray.

no impact switch AFIK. Check your grounds, check the battery- make sure the starter hot and other wires are still attached- yyou may have pulled a wire off. (make sure the battery is disconnected when playing with the starter wires!)

Wow, you must have really hit the curb hard to kill the engine. Better check wheel alignment too!

Accidents happen, just don’t let the cops take the car
