Default Brake Pad Light Help

I have a '86 951 and have a question. Does my car have a light for the brake pads like I have seen on other 944's? The light doesn't light up when I start the car or anything but it looks like there is a light that is suppose to light up. What could be causing this to not light up at all? All my fuses are good and I have checked them like 3x to make sure. The light has never light up since I have had the car in May 2003. How would I go about checking it then? The reason I started this is because I need to get new brake pads soon and so I though I would bring this up too. Thanks.

Take the gauge cluster out and see if the bulb has died or is just plain missing... very easy job, you want to take the steering wheel off (no biggie with non-airbag wheel) and after that it's only a few screws...

It should light up when you switch the ignition to 2nd click, along with the rest of the warning lights (oil press, brake fluid,...). Mine doesn't, but it's because all my bulbs are missing - doh.

disconnect one of the brake pad wear sensors and see if the light comes on.

light should come on with the key on, engine off. P.O. may have removed the bulb or the bulb may be burned out. Personally I would simply keep an eye on the brake pads, you can see them through the wheel easily enough.
