Uh oh, I looked underneath my battery, and I was happier not knowing about this problem... maybe if I ignore it it will go away =)

Oh.. my.. lord. That is one nasty hole. I had two holes; a dime or smaller sized hole and then like another tiny pinhole in my battery area. Patched it up with fiberglass last month. My mix was questionable, bit soft.. not enough hardener. Now this massive pit from hell scares me! I hope my makeshift fiberglass job works a bit better and doesn't lead to that!

I took the battery out the other day though (since I'm storing it inside for the winter) and the fibgerglass seems still all good and its nice and firm. I wonder how long it will last? Maybe I'll get it done the proper way in the future. But for now I'll be checking it like monthly, cause that gargantuan hole has made me paranoid.

I can't believe somebody in that thread referenced Yul Brenner.

Oh, and that hole looks pretty bad.

i dont like the way he patched it, but i guess you gotta do what you gotta do!

Dlefko,

POR 15 is the ****!!!! if you have a vintage porsche, you have to kow about por 15.. it should be handed out to us like samples of tide at the grocery store!

as long as you do it right, you will be in good hands.. but if any tiney drop of water gets into the por-15 chemicals (even a drop of sweat), it is ruined, as it will then not treat and seat the metal properly. if you follow directions to a T you will be in good hands.

Glad to see he had painted his camshaft cover before fixing the battery tray.
