Default Think I need to sell a kidney, can't fix car myself, can't afford the dealer HELP!!

My car has 0 oil pressure after changing oil and filter. I had just had the engine rebuilded and was advised to change the oil after 1000 miles. Changed the oil from 10w40 to 20W50.

The car initially ran fine after the oil change, there was a slightly delayed pressure first start up, but pressure build up fine. The next day 0 oil pressure?! First I changed the oil back to 10W40 and used a new (porsche) filter. I checked; pick up tube, OPRV and the oil pump. Then tried priming the pump. Still no pressure. This has been going on for two months, what am I doing wrong?

Any help will be appreciated

Gauge is broken? Oil sending unit is broken?

It's not a sender problem, no oil is reaching the filter when the engine is running, I've checked with the filter removed. Besides that the valve lifters are very noisy, so no oil is reaching them. Thanks for the quick reply

How much do you want for it? What shape are you in? Details, please.

Take it back to the shop, there must be a warranty on it.

Depends how bad you need one I guess. In places like China they are pretty inexpensive I read. Pretty sordid, really.

But seriously, I'd take it back to the shop that did the work. If you start messing with it they can wash their hands of it.

I hear here's a nut on the front of the engine that needs a ton of torque for the pump to work properly...

I keep reading about oil pressure relief valve problems (sticking, etc.) with people changing the weight of the oil they are using. Take a look in the archives.

Other possible problem could be the torque on the crank pulley. But it's too suspicious that you just changed the oil when this happened.

What kind of pressure were you getting after the initial rebuild? Warm and cold please

Check you oil pressure relief valve and the torque on the crank bolt. The bolt is supposed to be tensioned to something like 175ft/lbs. Insufficient torque will keep the pump from building pressure. Coupled with your weight change and recent engine work, I would make sure to rule these out first.

Exactly what I suggest. I'd check the torque first if not go to the pressure releif valve. It has to have the filter housing aligned properly or it will bind. Good Luck

Pressure was 5 bar on cold start, when the engine was warmed up pressure was 1-2 bar at idle.

Will binding of the OPRV cause 0 pressure? Thanks for all the response
