Cool Mass. Cape area help!

My father just bought a 951 near the Cape and we need to get the car back to Upstate NY. It's about a 6 1/2 hour drive and the weather just got really crappy. Anybody have any suggestions on how to get the car back? I may not be available to help him get the car, so it may have to be a one man job. Easiest, cheapest, safest way back is what we are looking for. Thanks!

It's not that bad out. Specially not for someone from Rochester. Tell him to keep out of the throttle and go back Rte 90.

Don't really know what your asking. tow truck or anything like that will cost you an arm and a leg.

I agree, this is balmy winter Rochester weather. But with 4 bald tires and no LSD, Mass. to NY is going to be a long haul.

Right, I might have to re-vamp my advice after having driven across the street for OJ and coffee, and sliding ten feet adter lightly touching the brakes at 15 MPH or so.

If he can get on the Highway early he should be okay, and the Cape shouldn't be as bad as here. He's got plenty of gas-em-up opportunities on the Freeway, but he should be careful.

If he's really concerned, he can get a beachside hotel for next to nothing right now, and it should be a pretty view.

Hella cheaper than a tow truck.

Do you need someone to drive the car - I could do it - maybe. I'm in central CT, about 45 min from Providence, RI (not much further to the bridge to the cape).
I would do it around Christmas but can't do it this weekend.
Let me know:

Thanks for the offer Jake, but I think we need to try and get the car sooner before the weather gets too bad around here. I think...

Well, it may go mild again... let me know at that email if you need help - or just a hot drink along the trek!

If it is just bald tires, what about stopping by Town Fair Tire or such and pick up a set of in expensive winter tires? Something nice an skinny for traction.

I just saw a set of phonedials advertised on boston.craigslist.org with Blizzaks mounted on them (used one season). The seller was asking $300 and located in the Cape! So that's one option if you need tires -- but better hurry up, I might snag them up myself.

15 hour bus ride from Upstate NY to Mass., 45 minute cab ride to East Sandwich, 7 hour drive home. Car is safe and sound, no major hitches the whole way.

Thanks to all who offered help or advice!
