Question Kumho V700 - Who has experience with them? :) or :(

There is an ad on the mullet board for a set of new Kumho V700s. Has anyone run them? how do they rate?

TIA

I've run them autocrossing and they were great, very sticky and gave out very progressively.

Which V700?

I've run through 3 sets of Victoracers (V700) and 3 sets of Hoosiers and one set on the new Kumho Ecsta (V700) - getting ready to try out the TOYO's. They are "ok" for autocross (Hoosier flat out whoops it there) and good to excellent for track use (Hoosier is still faster, but don't last long and cost way more). It's a good buy for occasional non-competitive use (top of your game). I liked the Ecsta more than the Victoracer, but it was the only set that was shaved and heat-cycled - I never tried the Vracer's that way.

Used for $150-200 is probably a good deal.

Skip,

Here is the text of the ad.

Please don't hesitate to make a lower offer as I want these sold before the end of the season.

Thanks,
if i plan on using them primarily for autocross, should i be concerned with heat cycling?

First, 265 is too wide for a 8" wheel - by a long shot - 9 would do, but 10 is best. He doesn't say if they've been mounted - or used? If they are new, offer no more than $350 (shipping will be another $50 or more).

Generally, the Victoracer should be shaved for dry racing but it is not absolutely necessary. I left all of mine at full depth only because I live in a very wet climate.

You can heat-cycle them "good enough" by doing the late-night parking lot skid pad... drive at 80-90% effort ~2 minutes in each direction X2 - then, let them sit in cool dry storage for 24+ hours.

On the other hand, that $400 could go in the Mullet relief fund, and put you well on the way to replacement 944'ness.

265 would bow out on an 8" rim. Ideally you would have a 245 on an 8. A 265 would be best suited for a 9, 9.5 or 10. Corvettes run 275 on 9.5s and I have seen 315 on 9.5s as well as 10s

i will wait for 245s to come up unless the guy practically gives them away.

Tom - you will regret now having enough tire under that car. I know it makes the ride rough and the handling a little raw but with as much power as those cars make it is going to chew 16's.

Matt
I was looking at the Kuhmos strictly for autocross & maybe a track day if MetroNY PCA will let a mullet on the track with them.

i just bought a set of take offs with 245/16 eagle RS-As from SLP.

Check out this deal for $500!!! Each tire is $175 at tire rack + shipping + mount& bal. Schweeeeet!

http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...&SHOWEMAIL=Off

The car was just too stiff with the 17s. i am 16" running dunlop 225/60 snows and the car handles better (more balanced) than it did with the 275/17 Comp TAs. Im not punching it on turns, but entering them at a nice clip and the car stays balanced.

What happened to the Mazda? How many miles & how much did you get?

I suppose it is all in how you drive. Those Goodyears are crap, 10K from now you will be replacing them (they harden very fast). That is a good deal though, if you consider you will make more than that selling the 17"s They are stiff in the rear with the harder sidewall and lower profile. Since you know handling I really dont think you will have a problem. I was trying to convey that traction can be a problem and the 16's dont offer tires wide enough, for the most part.

I am trading the convertible for a bridgeported motor for the 88SE that I have. We dont need the convertible and who knows what I would have gotten for it. Probably about 1500.00. I never make money selling cars and that one would be no different.

I've driven a Factory Five spec racer on Victoracer V700's (the 275s are the spec tire). They stick like all get out, but they won't last you but a hard weekend at the track (judging from the cobra's wear on the tires).

I have yet to drive a DOT-legal tire that will grip as well as theses, but they are very short lived!

10k is three or four years with the snows. i put on about 7k a year total. I was debating over tire brands then reality checked myself that this is a commuter car to the station. brand new wheels and tires for $619 delivered was too good to pass up. i like bolt on applications.

i played on tire rack and couldnt find a 245/16 competition tire.
