which is the best P-car EVER built

The best ? or the best....
In my opinion the 959 is a must in the endless list that is bound to come.
However, I would like to add that the 944 saved Porsche.
This surley does give the 944 a top 5 position in the list.
I would also like to mention the 914. this car (mid engine) pre dates a lot of followers, (MR2, X/19, boxter? etc...) and it should also get a good position.
I will also give a good rating to the mid 80's 911 with the G50 box.

944 Cabriolet's...
Why? The car looks the best out of any porsche anywere in the world (IMHO) The look is amazeing it has the 60mm cut on the windshield (or 6cm) makeing the car look even lower then that of any other stock along with the turbo front and rear valance it gives it a very aggressive look. The cabriolet also has hidden secrets as well. Its the only 944 that has underbody aerodynamic panneling(To my Knowlage).. It also has the lowest drag coefficent of .32 (A combination of the smaller windscreen and underbody changes) It also has a lower center of gravity giving it some gretter grip on a skidpad.
I am biased of course

Best is a hard way to look at porsches when there are so many greats....
to me it has to be the 917 or the 962, I'd lean towards the 962 because they are so dead sexy and because you can buy a street version if you wish..... (dauer 962... drool...)

I tend to agree with Ian and Rich - the 917K or the 962.
Why?
Both cars absolutely DOMINATED the elite World Class racing series they competed in.
If we are just talking road cars - I nod my hat towards the 993 Turbo S.

what are your qualifications of best?
best technology?
best looking?
racing or street?
fastest?
most reliable?
you see.. when asking a loaded question like this it would be better to be more specific.

Boy, there's a loaded question. Here are my opinions:
Track category:
Best pure 'modern' race car: 917
Best vintage racer: 904
Best club racer: 1973 911 Carrera RS and the new 911 GT3 RS (Too bad the GT3 RS won't be coming to the USA anytime soon! )
Best DE car: 944S2!
Street category:
Best street car: 993
Best vintage street car: 356C
Best convertible: 986S
Best vintage convertible: 550 Syder
Best daily driver: 996 C4
Best weekend / toy car: 914 2.0
I can go on: there's probably a 'best' category for every Porsche model in my book! (I just about covered most models already!)

The last one seems to be somewhat restricted: the tale is that the registration has been allowed with the restriction that the beast would never show up on USA roads....
So it is possible, you can have one...
It is my favorite anyway

Yeah, the 993 turbo S is up there, quintesential porsche, that or a 911 S from the 70s. As far as race cars go, 917-30 - BEAST.
WHAAT?? I live in alabama, time to track that 917 down.. but I believe it, if its got lights, and windshield wipers, you can get it on the road in Alabama

Ok, so who do you prefer- Jennifer Anniston or Raquel Welch? 'Cause that's what this question amounts to.
In the Porsche world, I'd go with the 917/30 in the race car world and the rest are all good!
