Jonas didn't check his cam chain and tensioner as he had been repeatedly directed. Busted the whole top end. Guess John has fixed it and Jonas is driving it.
Might as well drive it a bit Jonas. Get your money back out of it. Figure at $400 per month you have eight maybe ten months of driving to do.

OK, now that everyone has posted what they thought happened, here is what really happened....
SoCal... you are wrong... (and you make it seem that you know whats goin on) Basically i stripped my timing belt of the teeth... Because of this, obviously, all of the valves smacked the pistons and got all bent up... The head is at the moment still at the Motorworks being rebuilt, then John will get it back and put it back on with all new belts.... Its still not done yet, and i will be selling it ASAP... but not for less money than i want...
Just to clear everything up... The Cam chain and chain tensioner are in perfect condition... When i first had the car towed to Anderson, John gave me a call saying that he was ashamed that i had the chain tensioner done at another shop... Fact of the matter was, it was never done since i have owned it... He told me that it looked brand new!
Chris, yes i have been... BMW forums doing research on my next asset....
Cheers,
Jonas

Jonas, what kind of BMW? I have an excellent 540i for an attractive price. I am looking to get a 993/996 while it is winter. A little ahead of schedule but if the timing is right you have to do what you have to do.

Mine is an E34 (95 the last year for them). It is not a stick (sorry, cant find it all at the right time). I would be asking about 12,500 which is probably too little. The car has 165 on it but the block was replaced (under warranty, I am sure you have heard about the engine problems in the 540) at 90K. It is damn fast and in perfect shape outside (maybe 3-4 door dents, I could have them removed). Comes with 18" Hamann Motorsports wheels, brand new S-02's. I will attach a pic in a minute. I am guessing that if you are looking at an E28 5 I am probably more than you want to spend.

Yeah, i am looking to spend abotu 3500 on a car, then use the rest of the money for suspension and other fun toys under the hood.... I am also thinking of doing a euro bumper conversion, if i can scrounge up an extra 2 grand... Good luck selling it though.... For those miles, it sounds like your price is just about right!!!

The go from about 20.5 (I have actually seen some sell at that!) to a low of about 8500. This one would be in the 20.5 range if the mileage were 1/2. The gent. I bought it from drove about 85 miles each way to work (he owns a string of advertising agencies) from Ft Worth to Dallas. Really a great car though. You should be able to find an E28 for that money but I doubt it will be a really great one.

When was the last time you looked for e28's??? Most of the nicer ones go for about 3500-4500 at most... the nicest one i have ever seen went for about 8500 only because it already had everything, and i mean everything done to it... For 3500 I will not only be able to find a nice one, but i doubt i would really have to sink much money into it to get it into tip top shape... For a 3500 dollar car, i am expecting to put in about a grand into repairs...

Wow - I havent looked in a few months but I dont remember them being that cheap (then again area has a lot to do with it). I have seen some REAL beaters in the 1500-2000K dollar range. Most of the ones I see around here are in the 5500 range (nice ones that is). They are great cars. Recently I have begun to lust after a 6 series.
