Question Out of Morbid Curiosity.....

What would it take to do a 924 Carrera GT conversion? At least looks
wise.

Looking at the car, I'm seeing different fenders, side markers, bumper
cover and front valence. Plus the fat fenders in the rear.

Does the hood and lights or header need to be changed?

Are there any kits for this?

I'm only half serious about this, but I thought that if my job situation
works out, and I have some money in my pocket come summer, and
the 924S doesn't blow up....well she needs a paint job anyways...LOL

What are you converting from
924 or 944 or Yugo?

Well the Yugo would be such a sleeper!!

I'm converting from a 924 of course, of the "S" line rather then the
original line. I can't imagine you'd be able to do the rear fenders on
a 944 properly...

To convert your 924S to a 924CGT (in looks only), you would need:

1. Front fenders (fiberglass or 944 fenders, both visually are basically the same). Install euro sidemarker lights.
2. CGT bumper cover/valance (with corresponding d/l's and bumperettes)
3. 931 vented header panel
4. CGT hood scoop
5. rear quarter panel flares
6. delete the round US-spec lights on the sides of the rear quarters
7. Euro rear bumper
8. have someone print up a "Carrera GT" decal for the rear.

You could then get really picky and shave the rain channels and do flush-mount glass.

You could go to the CGTS look by deleting the pop-up h/l's and use the GT racing clear light cover kit.

The 924S has an advantage over early 924 (non-turbo) cars as it has 5 lug wheels to start with, so you can do a nice set of 951 fuchs and fill out the fender wells.

I have been thinking about this project for a long time myself......

Hmm, that's the list I expected to see.

I'd like to get by with just the flaired front and rear fenders, side
markers, bumper and valence, and Carrera Decals. I'd have to get
some for the front fenders too!!

Are there any fiberglass kits for this?

Check out www.gt-racing.com . They have almost everything that you need.

The only problem with GT-racing is that they are super expensive. I can't imagine paying what they want for some of the stuff they have listed.

You can also call Stephen Kaspar at Imagine Auto (www.imagineauto.com). He did a C-GTS conversion on a 931. There was a writeup in 9 Magazine a while back. IIRC he had to do some fabrication (making inner fenderwells) as well as some cutting of the quarter panels. He's a Rennlist site sponsor and could probably help.

If you happen to have a 924 Carrera GT for sale for a few grand, then
sure I'll buy one from you. But unless you can show me where to buy
one, I'll have to make something similar.

So this is NOTHING like that identity crisis issue.

Didn't the 931 GT have a smaller rear spoiler?

That black and red Carrera is AWESOME!! THATS what I'd want to reproduce!

Damn that's just beautiful!!

Please, don't scare me with the 944 Ricer. I've seen something like that
out here in Chicagoland and I nearly crashed my car in shock!

Check out this thread. He is selling a GT-Racing widebody front end at a discount.

Not exactly Carrera GT... but maybe a lot cheaper.
