It is to provide ventilation to the belt cover as you were told on the 924 board. Porsche later issue a service bulletin indicating the hose could be deleted and the nipples to which it mounted should be capped. If you doubt that, simply follow the hose back the 8 inches to where it connects to the belt cover.

Techno Duck you hit the nail on the head. I fabricated a little bracket to keep the air filter off the alternator.
I actually just spent tonight hacking a honda civic performance filter kit to pieces, I now have a outlet for the vent hose and extended the filter so it rests on a different bracket which mounts off to the side (I'll posts some pics tomorrow).
I was thinking about the throttle cam upgrade. Any recommendations?

I bought a aluminum throttle cam off Ebay from 944Racing.Com . Apparently they have suspended sales directly through the site until after the holiday season, but if you goto the main page and follow the link to their Ebay auctions, you can find a few of them up for bids.
Overall, a really good and cheap upgrade. Literally felt like i bolted on horsepower when i swapped one onto my 924S.
