Need to Paint my Car

Need to Paint my Car
I got a quote of $4,500 to paint my car. He would take out any rust, though there isn't much, and do a great job. I've used him before, his work is great. Problem is, I'm about $11K into the car and the $4.5K will take it up to $15.5K that I'm into it. It's a 1975 1.8 liter engine. I just redid the interior and replaced all of the lights with LEDs. The car runs well, it's just that the paint is a bit ratty. Should I drop in the money to have it repainted and the body work done so that I'm $15.5K into and try to sell it or not? I guess if I don't do an entire repaint, I would just try to spot shoot the car myself. Of course, then I would get a lower selling price. Thoughts?

$4500 sounds too much if you plan to sell the car--that cost will be hard to recover on a '75 1.8 liter.
How about ask for another quote with some more frugal paint work?

Are you planning to keep the car or sell it? If you're going to keep it, go ahead and get it fixed and painted.
If you're going to sell it, don't bother with the paint. Let the buyer deal with that, if they want. You will have a hard time selling a '75 1.8 for what you'll have in it, especially if it still has the BUBs.

'75/'76 cars are the least sought after years because of the bumpers and the 1.8L is the least sought after motor of the 3. With another $4,500 in paint, you'd be approaching '73/'74 2.0L territory, which is the most desirable combination.

If selling certainly do not paint. If keeping, we love our 914 and do not care how much we spend on it as long as it is spent in the right direction. THESE days, it is hard to repaint a 914 correctly for only 4500 dollars!
