What should I be looking for in a 914
Hi guys I’ve found this site extremely useful as my journey for my first Porsche begins. I recently found a 75 914 1.8. It needs some things windshield, dash top is cracked seller stated there was some rust on the firewall, and it needs brakes.
I will be going to look at the car tomorrow. What are key things I should be looking for? He is asking 2g.
Thanks in advance guys

If he's admitting to some rust there is probably more. Where has the car lived?
BIG area is hell hole under battery, and the longitudionals under the rocker panels. Also under carpet by pedals- common area for moisture and more rust. Can see it under windshield frame.
Hard to say about more but definitely get it up on a rack to really look at rear suspension mounting points, etc.
75 and later are less desireable with the bigger bumpers and more smog crap, but the bumpers can be backdated.

The later cars had a sound pad on the firewall which was a big moisture trap- could be surface rust under that but the lower firewall is part of the hell hole and that can be a REAL mess!!

Any 914-6 and '73 2.0 were most desireable. Actually 1.8 was least desireable engine especially on later models. Hopefully it's not an original California car- they had even more smog crap...

Rust is the biggest issue. Look everywhere! Electrics are probably next and then mechanical last. The mechanical stuff is the cheapest to fix.
