Default What engine should be in a 1974?

I'm looking at one right now for a fun street car.

It's a 1974 and it's being advertised as a 2 liter. I "thought" the 1974 had a 1.8 in it.

Can anyone advise?

A '74 could have either a 1.8 or a 2.0, if I remember correctly

Yep 1.8 or 2.0 in '74. Also, the f and r swaybars std on the '73 2.0 were optional in '74...

What do you think a solid, low mileage rust free 2 liter 74 should sell for? The seller says it has 55k miles on it, but there's no proof that the odom didn't flip.

The car has fresh paint, zero rust, and everything works/runs as it should. Except for the dealer installed factory AC... Shocker

Any idea on what is a reasonable price on a car like this? They're very hard to shop and compare.

I can't imagine it being 18k (I think you said in your other post). Having just gone through the purchase process back in November, they are definitely rising value-wise but there some very nice examples out there for much less. Without seeing the car, I would probably go somewhere between 12 and 15 based on how you describe it.

Definitely look into that mileage. One big problem with the 100k odometers is that you never know how many times it's flipped without documentation. I would go as far as checking with the shop's records if you have any doubts, and make sure that the one's you're looking at are true (ask me how I learned that one)

There are no rust free 914's out there. But a good, low mileage 914 2.0 is probably priced in the upper teens at this point.
Post some pictures!
