I have a 72 914 and this past weekend installed a new (rebuilt) fuel pump. I'm frustrated. The pump runs but its not pumping. I would like someone to confirm that I have hooked it up properly. There are 3 ports on the pump and labeled with letters.

S port connects to large fuel line from gas tank & fuel filter
D port connects to line going to engine
R port connects to a Y connector going to fuel pressure regulator & small fuel line to gas tank.

Gas gushes out of the fuel filter so I know its getting plent of fuel. I tested the pump with the S port connected to the gas tank and the D port with a long hose to a pail. Ran the pump and nothing comes out of the D port. I do get significant gas out of the R port. Do I have the D and R ports mixed up?

I confirmed thru 3 sources that my hoses are correct. The pump itself is bad.

I once went through 4 fuel pumps on my 914. It was a nightmare. I hope it works now.

Yup. Car is running fine and I got my money back from the mail order company that sent me the bad pump.
