Just shoot me
I finally did it.
I bought a 914 project car. Woe is me. But on the plus side, it is Signal Orange.
Guy near Atlanta is moving to Chicago next week and needed to get rid of it, so we made a deal. It's a '73, was originally a 2.0, but we think it has a carbed 1.8 in it now. Minimal rust, just enough to give me something to fix for a few months.
First thing though, is I have to get it running. Supposedly the fuel lines were pulled and not replaced.
Anybody want to make an over-under on when it first hits the road?

First thing is post some pics! Let's see it.
Chris Foley at Tangerine Racing makes a really nice stainless steel fuel line set. Reasonable price on them too.

I'll get some pictures soon. After a month long drought, the skies opened up yesterday the entire time we were winching the car on to the trailer and the entire drive home, so today was spent getting the water out and drying the rust, er, car.
The PO and the PO before that had started stripping the car for a restoration, so there is a lot of stuff that I have no idea how it fits. I sure hope you guys can help with that. I do have a Haynes manual, but you know how they are.

+1 on the Tangerine fuel lines- just put one thru the tunnel on my '73 since I'm running carbs. Someday I'd like to try his Mallory distributor, just haven't pulled the trigger as it is a little pricey.

This is the only picture I have right now. It's one the PO posted on the Craig's list ad. Kevin and his wife were super nice, so hopefully I will be able to finish his project one day, and they will do well in their new place of residence: Chicago!!!!!!

Over-under is relative...if you can get it running, it could 'hit the road' this weekend. Real question is...when will you be DONE and/or satisfied? The answer to that is most likely never.
If you get it done in the next 3 weeks, bring it to Okteenerfest!

Yesterday I got off early and went by the DMV to see if this car was able to be registered or if I was going to have to turn it into a autocross only car. Found out that in GA, a police officer has to verify the VIN and fill out a form. I thought that would be a major hassle, but surprisingly it was easy. I called the Sheriff's Office, and a Deputy showed up within 30 minutes, filled out the form, and ran the VIN. And he didn't even shoot my dog!!!
Good news is that it hasn't been reported as stolen and I can register it now and wait to buy a tag until have it running. Bad news is that it was last registered in 2002. Supposedly this car was used as an autocrosser (it has front and rear sway bars and has BF Goodrich Comp T/A 195/50-15 tires on the 5.5x15 steelie rims) so it may have run after 2002, but it's looking more and more like an engine drop and refresh.
Other bad news: I got the car up on jackstands enough to get a better look at the rust issues. I should know better; they are always worse than you think. I'm not sure I am qualified to fix some of this stuff. I will get some pictures and post them. Just in case: Who in the area around Augusta, GA (extended to Atlanta, Charlotte, Charleston, Columbia, etc) does floorpans, longitudinals, jack points, etc, for the best value?

I gotta believe there's someone close to you, but I know that the guys at Exclusive Motorwerks can do a really good job if you feel like bringing it all the way up to Charlotte.

Thanks, Bob. Do they take credit cards? Charlotte is not a big deal; my truck and trailer probably know the way on their own by now. And I would rather drive to Charlotte than Atlanta any day.

yes...they take credit cards....
if you're interested, give them a call 704-483-3847...I just might be there...seem to spend all my time there nowadays. (welcome to 914 ownership!)

Will do. This weekend I'm going to Sebring to drive in a Chump car race, my first ever! When I get back I will post some pictures of the problem areas and then give them a call. If I want to get this car on the road before I'm too old to drive it, I will probably need some help.
