That's a good looking car. If it runs, it's probably worth the $8,500. Like skl said, it's probably been painted. The rockers and front and rear valence should be black, but it looks good the way it's done. The front bumper will be expensive to replace or get the dents out of.
It's a very early car based on the vinyl and cubby instead of gauges on the center console. Good looking car.

Wonder if the VIN shows it to be an early car. The early cars had no engine designation on them. What was it, the first 400 or so? When my 73 2.0 was ordered, the dealer was calling it the 914S. It came without any engine designation on the rear.
Car looks very clean and original. My favorite type. If you purchase it, get a COA and bring it back to its original delivered condition. I still think these are the Speedsters of the next generation.

The Brett Johnson books says it was the first 1000 cars of 73. He has a couple of pictures of cars with the A pillar vinyl.

As for redoing the front bumper- I had the Bumper Shop in Cali rechrome my front bumper on the '73- they also filled in the holes left from removing the front bumperettes. They did a great job...

vinyl on A pillar
My 73 had vinyl on the a pillar back in the day, but I took all of the vinyl off when I did the repaint. See the pic of it back in the 80s in my thread "1973 914 first car."
I've been around 914's for 42 years and have never seen one with vinyl on the A pillar, including several Parades. I don't even remember a picture of that. Are you sure some idiot didn't put that on thinking it would look "neat."?
I'd love to see a picture of that!
My '73 2.0 is a reasonably early one and I've known the car since it was a year old and it surely never had vinyl on the A pillar...

The yellow '73 914 in this thread brings back fond memories of my own yellow '74 914 1.8 with its optional Appearance Group Fuchs alloy wheels...
