Default 914 - Endangered Species: Britain’s rarest cars

Found this on Top Gear's site. Interesting. I'm guessing they mean there are only 12 registered in the UK?

Endangered Species: Britain’s rarest cars

PORSCHE 914

In the sixties, VW and Porsche decided that they both needed a similar kind of new model and decided to link up. In 1969 the resulting 914 was launched – a rakish VW-engined targa that cost nearly as much as a 911, and it's this version that is dying. They also did a 911-engine’d six-pot (the 914/6).

Boy, and I thought they were rare here! Don't suppose the UK uses as much road salt as we do, but they do have a lot of moisture...interesting they'd use a picture of a US model in that story.

I would be happy to send the 1.7 over there for the right price to make it a lucky 13.

Unfortunately there's a ton of road salt used in the UK. Goes down upon the merest hint of snow. The annual MOT inspection might be one reason why they've disappeared. It's compulsory, pretty rigid and you can't register a car without passing it. That's got to get more difficult and expensive each year. And of course the CCTV's will get you if you try driving without the window sticker in place. But I never saw even one at the dozens of track days I did when I lived there. In fact the only (partial) car I saw was a Blut Orange shell/steel fenders/cage tied to suspension points, etc., that was at a local body shop. Was told a 3.6 was going in it. Tried to buy it but no luck.

I wonder how gobsmacked they'd be to learn there's a car in FL offered for sale in this month's Pano for $625,000.00?
