After a long break. I have finally gotten back to my 74, 914 project and began doing the drivers side long repair.
I have it dissassembled and cleaned/metal ready / weld thru primer etc. I am ready to weld and noticed that the repair / reinforcement long cover goes way up under the rear fender on the frame above the rear drivers side swing arm mount.
I don't want to cut the fender.
How do I weld there?
or
Do I cut the stiffening kit to where my Mig will reach?
Maybe one day I will put on fender flares and not mind cutting the fenders but preferably not today.
I hate to cut away added strength in a joint that I know would improve the frame etc.
any advice appreciated!
thanks, Pete

This is a tough one... To make it as strong as new, you need to reach way in there. You can probably get it pretty good, though just by doing the best you can.
If you don't mind about originality, you can "get creative"... I've welded in steel square tubing to help strengthen mine up.
You'll find a lot of good info on the 914world and 914club sites. (They're 914 forums are more active than Rennlist's.)
