I hope to take my FP 914 to the runoffs next year @ Road America.
As I've got a 901 tranny with 904 mainshaft, does anyone have a handle on what the ideal gearing would be for this track.
Also give me your tire diameter and I'll do the conversion to my 23.0" slicks if necessary.
Thanks
Tom B.

Tom,
I can't give you great data, but I ran my '73 2.0 there a few years back and I was at 100 before I left the pits. It is a very fast track. I was maxed out at 3 different spots on the track (probably would have been more if I knew the track better). Matt Romanowski might be able to offer a little more insight to this. - Jay

We were in Jay's stock 901 tranny on 205-50-15 yokos. There were 3 spots were we were maxed out at about 120mph, including pit lane. If you're in the 150 horsepower range, you'll want to gear for 140ish I would guess. You may want to contact John Takahara (PCA National Parade Concour Chair). He's run a lot of laps there and would be able to offer some help. Also, Brad Mayuer (of 914 Limited (309) 694-1797) is close by and could probably offer some help.

Thanks Mattt.
I will contact Brad.Have been doing business with him for years.
Thankfully my runoffs motor puts out a tad more then 150hp(Actual #'s are kinda held close to the vest for obvious reasons).According to some of my competitors,I'll need to see at least 130+ down the straights to be in the ball game.My biggest obstacle will be aero . I'll mostly need to tidy up the air going under the car.Not much else I can do.Also get my weight as close to minimum as possible.
Thanks for your input.

I figured you were north of 150 and I know that you don't want to give away any secrets. The track is very fast. In a stockish 2 liter, we were hitting were only hitting 120 becuase that is all the car had. I would also try to get in touch with John - he's done a lot of time in a 914 there. Brad will probably have contact info for him.
