Sterling is low at the moment, you could do worse than re-importing.
Here is a reasonable car from a reliable dealer in the UK....

a buddy of mine has a clean 73 914 2.0 orange with new paint that he would sell all day long at 10g's you guys must be smoking some good stuff out there..... do a craigslist search across the country and you see what cars are actually going for.... Sure there are 20g 2.0 914's but they are few

He is not looking for the "sat on the side of mom's house for 8 years while I got my associates degree" car. He wants the car as a collector car. That means he is looking for one of the "few" as you put it.

I am selling my original 1973 1.7 with 20K miles on it for in your price range. I will even throw in a spare running 2.0 for a little more $$$$. I have been posting it on this thread for a while now. Let me know if you are intested. I will "re-bump"it in the for sale forum. Thanks!

Out of curiosity what would a factory original 914-6GT be worth? I saw one yesterday and it was all original second owner has had it since 1973. The car is rust free but the paint is shot otherwise a fantastic car.
I sold my 74 2.0 L way to early back in 2004 I got $9500 for it and it sold again a year or 2 ago for a little under $15k. I was the second owner and it left in excellent condition. Although I really enjoyed my 914 i could never put a value equal to my 964 on it. They are fun to drive but nothing compared to a solid 964 C2 and you can pick them up cheap today.
Although I really enjoyed the 914 you have to put things in perspective and IMO only the 914-6's are truly worth the current market pricing. Unless the car is showroom new condition all original and low mileage more than $20k for a 2.0l is crazy $$.
No insults intended.

Heck, I agree so no insult taken. I am trying to sell my 914 so I can buy my Dad's 911. I love 914's, but I want the 911 in the stable. I think the asking price for 914's is out of this world. It has come down a little as of late, but it is still crazy high. I am probably going to get blocked from the 914 forum now!

yhea, I wanted to get a primo '73-'74 914 2.0 for around $10-12k back around 2002 or so but ended up picking up my 951 instead, thinking I'd get the 914 later. Now, 914 prices shot up and are fast becoming out of reach (read no longer a value) for me. If the economy continues to stabilize and prices on 914 move downward, I may use some of my cash reserves towards the end of summer to get one.
I need to continue doing my homework on them though. I've only ever ridden in one, never driven.

I'm a 993 jockey, now, after driving a 968 for about 8 years. I previously owned a '71 1.7L 914 in the 70s. Here's a question on which I've been trying to get an answer.
The cream of the 4 cylinder crop is regarded to be the '73 2.0L. I'm pretty familiar with the year and model. What I'm wondering is how a '74 2.0L contrasts and/or compares with the '73.
Thanks in advance.

Basically the same except some of the stuff that was standard on the '73 like the appearance group and F and R factory sway bars (which it desperately needs) were extra on the '74. They also had the special appearance versions (white with orange stripes or black with yellow) and '74's had the rear bumperettes in addition to the front ones on the '73.
There may have been some minor interior differences but I can't remember them off the top of my head, hell, it's been nearly 40 years!!

I am still amused by the suggestion to check Craigslist for some guage on reality. That is not where someone goes to sell a really valuable 914. Pretty much every 914 I have seen on Craigslist has been a parts car no matter what the owner was asking or thought of it. "potential" is a word that is thrown around a lot on Craigslist. My neighbor has a 356 he bought for $2K in 1960 now worth an appraised $85K. Lets face it, even if you think only the 914-6 is worth anything the value of it will drag the 914-4 up. My 911 has gone up $7K in 3 years... Before you criticize my valuation, I use PCA Valuation, eyes on semi-annual appraisal, and Excellence as my guage.
Argue about the value all you want but they aren't making any more of them and there are less really nice ones to choose from every day.

I just sold my '76 914 2.0. I got what I paid for it 2 years ago when the market was peaking. And yes, while values for "good" cars will always climb, adjusted for inflation and they are significantly cheaper than they were new.

There is a nice orange 73 2.0l on the samba for $9k.
I have no affiliation with the seller and of course have never seen the car so I can’t speak for the condition or if the description is accurate but it looks good in the photos.
