Actually that's a good starting point if the body really is solid- but why would you replace the battery tray completely unless it really wasn't "solid." Surprising if the the FI still works ok but if he's asking 2800 you can get it for less and have a fun project...

I agree, it might be a fun project. I would be interested, butI just got another 914 project.

The owner sent me some pics; there are very large bubbles in the drivers door. The drivers door jamb is full of holes, and in the pics of the pan that I saw it appeared a bit crunchy. For the price the owner is currently asking, I think it may just may be worth it to get a nice dry 914 right out CA or AZ. The drier the better!
