Default Legroom in a 914

I have a Porsche 944 but am considering adding a 914/6 available locally. Before making an appointment to see the car, I was wondering how much leg room do they have? I am 6'6" and do not fit in 911s, 928s, Caymens or Boxers.

How much leg room is there in a 914? Should I even bother to go look?

I'm short... and have more than enough room in a 914. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I'm 6'3" and fit in my father's 914. The problem I think you'll have is your right leg getting in the way of the shifter. At least that's what I encounter. Same thing in 911's only more so. Thats why I ended up buying a 951. The 911's I looked at were fun, but I just didn't feel in control when driving aggressively and trying to keep my leg free of the shifter. For me its workable in the 914 but still an issue. Getting in and out isn't pretty either. As for the appointment, I would go look. If there is any way you can fit in the car and drive it, chances are high you will love it. Hope this helps.

I'm about 5'9" and can adjust the seat so I cannot even reach the pedals...

I just remembered, a former customer of mine drove a 914 and he was a couple inches taller then me. He said once he packed himself in, he fit fine and loved driving the car. I'd go take a look, can't hurt and then you'll know..especially if its a six.

Thanks for the feedback. I will schedule an appointment to see the car. I didn't want to waste the owner's time if this was a non-starter.

It still surprises me that I fit in a 944 but not a 928. The issue in the 928 is the low ceiling. I am assuming the 914 will be fine since it is a Targa top.

Another car that I am looking at is a 89 Ferrari 328 GTSi. By any chance, is anyone familar with the seating configuration? The car is four hour drive and I don't want spend the time unless I have a reasonable chance of fitting.

If you don't exactly fit, put the seat back as far as it can go and remove the seat base cushion.

This lowers the driver by about 3" (if I rember correctly what an Inch was) and should accomodate the longest legs.

A good friend of mine has a 308. I fit in it to go for a cruise but driving it was absolutely out of the question. If the 328 is similar, the top is stowed behind the seats when removed(even less room). Neat car, but not impressive as far as power goes. Handled great for the year (79), sounded saweeeet, and the ride was amazingly smooth. Btw, my legs are not particulary long for my hight, 32" inseam. Fit and finish didn't approach porsche levels, but it was a hand made car back then, which is pretty cool.

Good idea! I'd forgotten about that. I used to do that when I autocrossed so I wouldn't slide off that vinyl cushion!

I had a 914, I am 6'4" and once I got into the car, I was quite comfortable. I did have to contort getting in and out, as I remember. I do not remember the shifter being a problem, mine had the center console, if that matters. I would suggest much test-driving!

I am 6'4" and I am all LEGS! If you take out the stock wheel and put a smaller one in you will be FINE! Good luck.

I have both a 944 and a 914 and I think that the 914 has more leg room.

Really? I have both as well and the 914 is MUCH smaller for me. The 944 is the only car I own where I have to pull the seat up a little.
