Question 220 H.P. 914 w/285 f# of torque

Anyone see the latest issue of Excellence magazine with the WRX powered 914 in it?

I haven't seen the article, but I do know that is becoming a bery popular conversion to do. It should be avery quick car.

A Porscharu. I love it! Sure beats the Chevy V8 route. Lower CG. More effecient. And at least it's a boxer motor for those purists!

+1 for the boxer engine! At least they share that.

Good article.
Nice car, too.
Seems like a neat idea, engines look so similar, but I dunno...

For some reason, I got the impression one could get the whole transplant (engine included) for about the same amount as one would pay for a typical 911 engine rebuild. I think the owner of this particular car found his motor for $2k on eBay. I've shopped around and found most of them are around that, if a little more.

Of course, the total car is a different story. I can't imagine building one exactly like that for less than $20k. Still, that's a lot of car for $20k!

I'm in the process of building my own Sheridan motorsports bodied 914 track car - with a 3 rotor rotary engine in it. In normally aspirated form I should get 400 hp and keep the weight down to 2000 lbs. I almost went the Subie route myself but thought I would like something different. Go to www.914world.com for more information on the Porscharu swaps. I'm actually impressed that Excellence put that car in their magazine since they typically cater to Porsche purists who might look down upon a converted 914.

Another owner, Ed Hunziker, I think in the Tampa area did a Subie swap, and loves it. He took it to Ariz. and back about a week after it got finished, with no problems encountered at all. I think he spent a bit over $10 grand. Came out about as well as the one in the Excellence--and was in a different mag. You can probably google it.
