My quest for a 914 continues?!?
Ok... After much research now and after 'Racer' informed me that the damaged 914 (1.8) I was originally looking at was probably not the car for me I have now found another 914 located close to me in the UK.
The ventor wants £2500.00 for it or approx $4900.00 USD.
here are some pictures:
The advert states that this is a 1975 914 Targa Lux 2.0L. Silver in color, Original Alloys, All Round Discs Brakes, Rare Classic Car, M.O.T. March 2007 New on sale, Inspection Welcome.
I am a bit confussed as I though that all 2.0L engined cars had a 5 stud wheel pattern... Am I correct?
Here is the link to the car for sale: CLICK HERE
I intend on looking at this car over the weekend... What should I be looking for and do you guy's think that this is a good example for me to start a project with?
Many thanks, Mark

Next question... I want to convert the car to 5 stud... what do I need (parts) for this conversion?
And also can anybody shed some light on what suspension I should be looking for... I would ideally like full platform adjustable coilovers so I can lower the car and set up to my taste?
Once again thanks, Mark

The 4 bangers came with 4 bolts. I would send Matt Romanowski a PM regarding the conversion as he just did it and has pictures from when he did it. I would also talk to him about the coilovers because he has them on his 914-4 as well. He has a sweet heart of a little car set up for AX and DE.
My other questions is what is a Lux? "1975 914 Targa Lux 2.0L"

Thanks Jay... I'm new to the 914's and have done as much research as possible and have heard many conflicting stories from various forums.
I intend on seeing the car this weekend so will be inspecting the battery tray, rockers and 'hell hole' etc as well as jacking points but at the moment I do not have pictures of these areas of the cars.
Lux... sounds like an old 944 - This is the first I have ever heard of for a 914. I'm inclined to think this is the sellers lack of knowledge as most 914's in th UK have been imported over from the US because most european examples have rusted to death.
I will send Matt Romanowski a PM - thanks for giving me the contact name, and see what he suggests.
I want a 914 purely because I love the look and the fact that it was one of the first mid-engined cars developed predominantly competing against the old Fiat X19.
I personally prefer the narrow body cars as I do with all porsches's as it looks clean in design.
I also prefer the original chrome bumpers ... The car I'm going to see does not have them... Is it a simple swap to the older style bumpers with the spot lights or is there bodywork mods involved?
I now basically want a good car to fully re-build to the spec that I desire and without the hassle of importing one over to the UK myself.
Once again... Many thanks for the help

P.S. - Why is the 914 board so in-active compared with every other forum on Rennlist???
What can we do to start to attract more member to this site from 914world etc?

The bumpers are not a big deal, just need to find some good ones. This board has the chance to be good, we just need people to stay active more. If we all do our part others will follow, I have been to the 914 board and I don't care for it personally. But that is just my $.02 however. Let us know how the car looks when you see it in person.

To do the 5 lug conversion, you need a 911 front end and redrilled hubs for the rear. The front end bolts right in and the rear is not very hard, but you have to change the rear wheel bearings. Prices vary depending on how good you are at shopping around and finding deals.

Hi Future,
The orange 914 didn't look that bad.
Anyway, be aware the car you are looking at is being advertised in Germany from Aachen. It could be an agent or whatever but the price being asked is 6900 Euro (about 4600 Sterling !!)

Irishdriver - Thanks for pointing out that this car is advertised in Germany as well. I will be speaking to the owner about this tonight, but you could well be right that it is an agents advert. All the same still needs looking into. It makes me more worried that the picture on the mobile.de website has the license plate masked out.
I intend on seeing this car on Saturday so will get further pictures then. Still at £2,500.00 it appears to be a bargin.
The auction for the Orange one also finishes this coming Saturday and the current bidding price for the car stands at £910.00. The max I will go to on this car is £1,800.00 which I consider to be a fair price even though it appears to have been fully restored pre accident. I must admit that I do like the silver colour better and that was the color that I intend on painting the 914 that I purchase.
Matt - Thanks for the quick advise regarding the 4 to 5 lug conversion. I will be looking into this in greater detail and will probably be PM'ing you near the time for you knowledge which is needed. I can get hold of all the front end components from a breakers close to my home who specialises in breaking Porsches called Douglas Valley. There webiste is: http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk/
Just something else of interest for you all... I like many spend far to long looking at home made video's on youtube.com and came across this 30minute one which has been produced by a person who tell and videos the intire restoration of a 914 from the day he purchase the car right through to completion... Well worth a look.
