You may have quite a project putting Sportomatic in a 6. I think there were just one or two ever made by the factory. I had a '70 T Targa sportomatic I bought from a friend for parts as the body was totally rusted out. I dismantled it and sold off the parts some 20 years ago. The sportomatic parts were quite desirable if I remember correctly. I still have somewhere in the garage a vacuum tank from the system I'd give away...assuming I could find it.
Good luck...

Nice phone number! What strings did you have to pull to get that?

I just asked for the phone number when I started my business a few years ago.
They gave me a list of available nos.

964RS: Thanks for the link to the Sportomatic stuff. I know Jim at Easy Parts and had not thought of asking him, but it makes sense that he might have some Sporto parts.

I guess I shouldn't have sold my 914-4 to begin with It doesn't help that my first car was my 914-4 and well, I am told my mom used to time trial the "6" while pregnant with me.. and its the car my dad took my mom to the hospital in for my "delivery"

I think what scares me a bit about the 914 is their age and lack of spare parts, even moreso perhaps for the "6". Sure, there aren't many parts that break and the "t" motor of a "6" is hardly a stressed motor, but... I would think a cottage industry, similar to that which supports 356's would start to grow soon, given that 914s are 32-37 years old!

I love the light weight of the 914's. Mine was 1990lb, "wet" for track use. Could run as low s 1950 for autocross use. My Boxster is somewhere around 2850lbs. Sure, it has 217hp vs my 2056 w/ approx 120hp, but that extra 900lbs is more noticable than the hp advantage.

On the plus side of the Boxster is, well, good, clean heat and a/c. Easy to shift (compared to my 901 tailshifters.. ugh.. where is that gear anyway ) Very responsive handling, enhanced safety, two trunks, convertible

Again, Boxsters are wonderful cars! I don't think there is any shortage of parts for 914's. I am in the parts business and really isn't anything I can't get at a low price.

Jay. Perhaps it is a false impression, but I perceive certain items hard to find for the 914-6 (rear calipers come to mind).. and "early" cars in general. I always see people point out "wrong" bumpers (creased vs rounded) on the early cars. Not sure where you find winshied trim pieces, rubber parts, tailight lenses etc. Over on 914world some posts make it seem pretty dire

Some parts are harder to find then others. It just depends what your looking for, as the car is 30+ years old parts are getting harder and harder to find. The 4's are easier then the 6 in my opinion.
