My dad knows quite a bit about the engines and trans because he used to use them for sand rails.
We dont know much about the 914 itself though, so if you could drop by and give us some hints, that'd be great
Let me know when you have time, this weekend is full but next weekend the car should be up on our rack and it'd be easier for you to tell us if there's anything that would need work or replaced.

By the way, how well do the carb setups work on the 914 2.0 liter? Id like to go that route with it because its pre smog and the prices on fuel injection parts is just insane. Its almost worse than my 944!

Where could I pick up a carb system from? Is there any good performance places online for 914's?

The car is a '75 according to the pic you posted of the serial no. I believe you will have to smog it. Mine is a '74 and is smog-free. If you have to smog it carbs will be a big no-no.

I also live in Elk Grove. If you have seen a white 914 cuising around town it may have been me.

Im always in my 944, were you over by EG blvd by the carwash a few months ago driving through the neighborhood?

It is fairly likely it was me. I haven't seen any other white 914s in Elk Grove for quite a long time now (though there may still be a creamsicle in the area behind Taco Bell off of EG Blvd). If I see a red 944 I'll wave.

Dual carbs subtract hp not add as the stock cam is set up for FI not carbs. If you are going to take the engine apart and keep the FI (wise choice) you can run the Raby 9550 cam and really wake up the engine and keep the killer torque that FI gives you,

What heat exchanges are on it? early of late style? you can find the Stainless steel early ones and gain about 8hp installing those instead of the late ones.

I live right off Calvine and have a 72 1.7 and a 74 2.0. I also run 914-parts.com here in Sacramento. Would love to see you at the monthly get together!

Unfortunately we will have to sell the 914 soon, we cant keep it. We will repair everything that's wrong with it then sell it of course, and give it a tune up.
I would like to get one sometime later on so im not totally leaving the 914 world, just temporarily
I live off Bond and Bradshaw, diagonal from that new pleasant grove high school.

By the way, is there a big upside to having a side shifter trans in the 914?
And a friend of mine down in arizona used to have one, and he was saying to ask about the "hell holes". What are the hell holes?

The hell hole is a common rust area that is just forward of the battery tray.
Here is my new toy as of last Thursday. Got a fairly nice 74 2.0, and after a couple of hours with Martin (Thanks!!! ) It ran much better!
