Post Question about this being a smart thing?

I moved to Germany in late July last year as you all know. I took my 74 2.0 with me. Since then the car has had a lot of repairs done to it. Including an engine removal, new floors and some minor things. I have a custom 6 speaker set-up in it (all Blaupunkt), new suspension etc.
A lot of people have been trying to get me to sell the car (because they are rare over here in Germany) and I could probably get a good price for it. The problem is, I really love this vehicle and it's my first Porsche. Think I should bite the bullet and do what's financially smart?

Note: I'm also moving back to CA so I can't afford to take it with me right now.

Thanks for advice

For what you could seel your 914 in Germany could you buy one already done in CA. ??? with less rust. Shoot you could probably start looking into a 6. or even a already done late model conversion. Let it go it is after all just a car. You can always find a better , nicer FASTER one again. Plus you now have the experience of what to look for.., Peace

...you obviously have commited the greatest sin in car ownership.....

you have allowed your emotional attachment to the car to blind your sense of value and judgement.

In the worst cases when this happens people spend thousands of euros/dollars restoring Opel Kadetts or Chrysler Neons or some other instantly forgettable junk.

If someone is offering you big money take the money and run !!! then buy a runner in your next port of call and find out if it is Porsche you love or just 947443xxxxx.

By the way what do you mean by rare and valuable. There about 30 on www.mobile.de including several 914/6's and Schröder in Stuttgart's 914/8 with a 928 motor. '73 2.0 are the most desirable but average ones (with no engine !!) are not making big money.

Irish
Good points indeed.

I know theres 30 or so 914s on mobile. But really, how many of them have a completely rebuild suspension and engine, plus a new floor pan, battery tray, paint etc.
Also, I purchased my 914 for 2500 dollars in california and shipped it over here (didn't have to pay for it because of my dad). If I can sell it for let's pretent 6K then I'd come out ahead. And for 6K I could get a neato different 914, or 944 yes? I don't know tell me I'm being realistic abotu that price.

Your price is a bit on the high side for a non-runner but you could possibly get it if the car is totally rust free.

Sorry to say the speakers don't help as you've cut the door panels.

What could make or break the deal is if you have had a conversation with the "zollampt" yet.

Does the car have German papers now or does it still have to be officially imported?

It still needs to be officially imported. On the lighter note, it will be running in about 4 weeks. I don't know what I'm going to do yet....
