Help....good books for repairs???
Allow me to introduce myself....
I'm a 32 year old teacher with NO mechanical experience. Ever since my father said, "don't buy that damn thing, it will cost too much to fix" in 1987, I've always wanted a 914.
I bought one off ebay. It starts, doesn't idle...I know I need to adjust the weber carbs...but I also need to fix the "rig" the old owner put on the linkage....
this includes possible replacing the accelerator/throttle cable. I have the Haynes manual, but it doesn't seem to help and I can find nothing online to help with throttle cable replacement....
Can anyone give any advice and/or a better book to buy for repairs....I am willing to be in this for the long haul and learn and repair at the same time

The Haynes seems to be the best general purpose repair manual for the 914, others were even more deficient.
If you are serious, you can buy the shop manuals for the 914, but they aren't cheap.
For the throttle cable replacement, you should be able to find some information somewhere online. That was what I did when I replaced mine, but it was so long ago I don't remember exactly how I came by the procedure.

Go to pelicanparts.com and check the 914 BBS and do a search. Also look at 914 Tech Articles. You should get help with the cable and carbs. However, since 914's did not come stock with carbs you will not get any help with them in a 914 book, only a book on carbs. You will find a lot on the Pelican site.
